Oh, and i did weigh them before putting them in the bator. 12 above 65g, 3 just below that.

The one thing i remembered as i was freaking out.

She uses an old still air hovabator, 35-40% humidity start to finish and gets great hatches.

Yes lower humidity is good for dark eggs 35%. I think I learned that here @Chooks man i think you are the one that said that??

This experience shows me a few things.

This lady is very nice and she really loves the marans breed.
She is a very dedicated woman.

Over the years, she has collected from the best marans lines with the best intentions of having beautiful correct birds.

She bred them with no knowlege, thinking they are from the best breeders so their marans must be faultless. Not having enough knowlege, she just made more chicks without understanding genetics, flaws, test mating properly or how to get rid of flaws.

This just reenforced the bad and made a mess.

I can honestly say, this would have been me if i did not find all of you.
All with the best intentions.

There is so much bad breeding information out there on the internet regarding marans. It would not be hard to muck it up.

But im still stuck with marans with the probability of having white underfluff because i dont know how to walk away.

I m telling you .the line you bought is not that bad like you think . listen to my advice .I know marans and I know it is very hard to find a perfect marans out there . this line has a lot qualities but you are refusing to see . you are just mad about your self .

let them hatch ,don t curse them by been made about your self . put your Ego aside and focus on marans breeding . that all .
if breeding marans get you that mad and stressed ,than find some thing easier , because marans breeding is the most complex chooks breeding in the world .
we win one day ,and we loose one day .that is life .we keep going .no point beating ours selves up .

I never go mad about chooks stuff .other wise I will lost my mind long time ago .

PS = I have a friend , he is a race horse breeder . he send his mare ho be covered with this stallion ,he paid $75 000 for live foal . he got a nice colt . somebody want to buy him for $300 000 . my friend did not want to sale him because he was stunning looking foal . come to age for racing . he did win nothing not even placed .
my friend keep saying to me .I really got this one wrong . nest foal from a same mare with unproven first sire ,she gave him a very nice felly .great winner .

Take a rooster prodigy from them and breed him back to his mother.

if cockerels will show white underfluff ,than we don t use them ,we only use pullets .
to build any line it is better to have one sire line and many dams lines .
the line you are trying to build will be sired by line #2 roosters . we need may different hens from different line .we don t need roosters .

here just a example of breeding practice .
line #2 rooster X line #2 pullets . sibling breeding just one time . we keep the best pullets and best cockerels .make sure no white in this line .we call them line #2.pure
line #2 rooster X pullets line #1 = we only keeping best pullets we call them line #1.
line #2 rooster X pullets line #3 new one - we only keep pullets . we call them line #3 .

by the end of the breeding season ,we should have related progeny with a lot genetic variation to work with .
I will tell you the rest of the breeding method when time come .
for now focus in achieving this stage .all tugged and healthy .very important to mark the eggs and the chicks ,other wise this method will no work .
