I guess I lost my big hen due to heat. she showed no sign of any illness, she was fine and one day I found her dead. during all of these years I lost all of my big chickens due to heat.

I am getting la fleche and white face black spanish as well. I like their unusual looks. as for marans, I told my friend in north greece to keep and breed her marans for me. they are free of parasitic white which is very important for me. almost all marans I have seen have parasitic white, bad combs even very bad tails. my friend's marans are good enough to start a new line.

big hens are good for a cold weather .for the hot weather medium size chooks is better 3 to 3,5kg max for the hen and 4 max for the rooster .especially if the chooks are free ranging all a year around like in my place .they have to be tough .

I used like a super large hens ,but slowly I realized they all died in a very hot days ,when temp passes 40 DC .

I hatched a huge hen from a 55 g egg. miracles do happen from time to time.

size of the egg does dictate a size of the hatched chick not the adult size . broiler chooks are super huge but they are bred from eggs size 62/65 g .

egg size dictate the future progeny eggs size at 50% rate .because other 50 % is inherited from the sire .
if we breed from a hen that lay large size most of her progeny will lay large size .
marans egg is very complicated one ,but peoples are not taking it seriously . they think should be dark that all . we forget about the type ,the size ,the shape and the color .

big boy .great conformation . love the depth of his chest .
do you still have this lineage ?

Yes, I do, but they tend to have a lighter eye colour.
Wait and see when I upload pictures of the actual birds.

you don t have any new photos ? marans you are working with ?

A bit of patience, please. I will take some new pictures as some of those pictures of a few month ago still show already sold birds.

Uploading is quite cumbersome due to my ancient and partially destroyed equipment.

$7 an egg.
I know. I know......
Each to their own, but I consider the selling of hatching eggs a service among serious and sincere breeders. So I do not see this as a source of income and do not charge such a high price.
But not every prospected buyer will get the eggs of my birds no matter the amount of money they offer. Those carefully chosen will give information about the hatching rate, the overall development and send fotos not only of the offspring, but of their eggs as well. I still have nice connections s with most of my buyers and even friendships, some already lasting more than 15-20 years.
