International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

that is not what I call M .
he have a great comb .the first point is actually good but is complimenting the point number 2 giving the comb a nice start .

this sort of comb start never goes over the beak and never bend at the front or S shape .

this 2 small point in the front of the comb if they are correctly place are a great sign of a good comb in the future generation .

it is a good trick if you are breeding fro two parent stock both with a large comb ,and you want to select the chicks early . look for the comb with a nice small serration at the start .

She has so much going for her..... I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you take more pictures could you check out post #1407 on this thread. I would love to see front, back, close up of head. Chooks man likes one of my cockerels and always talks about him. I understand now because I really like your cockerel. As Chooks man would say, he is sublime.

Pinky Pie is a gorgeous cockerel. Looks to be very well bred. Good tail angle, nice straight back. Beautiful copper coloring with no halo. His wing points down slightly where it should point back toward the tail. The wing should be held parallel to the back from my understanding. Someone can correct me on that if Im wrong. The blade of his comb doesnt touch the nape of his neck so thats good, no side sprigs. Lovely cockerel!

Your pullet is gorgeous as well, all except that she has a cushion on her back where it should be straight until it meets the tail. Im sure this pair will make you some nice chicks for you to cull through and select your keepers.

Chooksman and Redbanks can fill in where I lacked in my assessment.

Chookman can help u on the comb. He is our professor.

I think my BCMs are supposed to be from the Bev Davis line. When I ordered the hatching eggs, I was just looking at egg color and their use as crosses for Olive Eggers.

I was looking at a few other pictures of Pinky, and his wings seemed to be a little more parallel. I'll have to check him out tomorrow to see how he normally carries them.

Thanks!  I thought they seemed decent, but like I said, I'm a newbie to BCMs!  I'll have to look at the pullet tomorrow to get a better idea of the cushion in front of her tail.

A cushion is when the back is rounded toward the tail instead of being flat. This is an illustration of correct Marans hen type.

Yes in this picture his wing looks good. He is a very nice cockerel.

This is just a learning exercise but on this comb is the dip between the blade and the last point too shallow. I really want to learn combs and just can't seem to get it right.

When we got our birds she had them running all together, Greenfire and LP. So your cockerel and mine could be full brothers. When you see pictures of FRF the black banded birds are LP and the green banded birds are GF. I will post more. She has them separate now and I would sure like to have a couple of LP pullets.

No Chooks man I am not being disloyal to Claude. The pullets are for Claude!

yeah yeah RedBank leave Claude alone .

you just set your eyes on LP line .it is great who doesn t want to have a gorgeous pure blood Monique line . we all do .

good luck .

it is nice to keep both line pure and create a new one witch is a blind of the 2 , than we end up having 3 line running parallel to each other .

we breed to the French Standard and your cockerel comb is perfect .
5 point well define all end on the same line at the base SO NO m s or double .
the back could be rounded or like your has a half way point.

look at the photos I posted of the book and magazine I got from the French marans club . look at the comb of the rooster on the book cover.

if you breeding for other standard than I don t know and I don t care about them .
