International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

This is Waylons offspring #2
I dont like him at all. His tail hangs like this all the time. No worms or mite problem. Lowest in the pecking order and awful color.
I keep him around "just in case" but seeing these pictures, I think I will just cull him.

This guy has a great comb. Do you still have him or his mama or his sister? Any one of them will help you fix the comb in your new line .chooks man

Thanks! good to hear again from you!
My daughter took some splash Marans in a young trio and a white Marans pullet and a blue silver cockerel to the fair. Judge didn't like them because my Marans are slow maturing and slow feathering, he was pointing out that they were small yet and the tails aren't finished growing out on the cockerels. Mine don't finish until 12 to 18 months before I see final results. I told her next year she must take adult birds or she just won't be able to compete with the fast maturing modern breeds.

slow maturing and fast maturing are both marans traits ,the judge was wrong .
if your marans are not good maybe he need to judge other chooks breeds or find some thing else to do.
your marans are loaded with high qualities true marans traits . slow maturing is one of the original marans traits ,
i the book that I am writing ,I have a chapter where I talk about how little the modern marans judes around the world know about marans and how to breed them .
don t listen to him . send mature birds to the fair like to said .maybe they can see the complete quality of your marans.
