International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@Punkybrewster
Can you please make a list of the hens we selected as keeper in a order of the length of they body ( who has a longer body type) number one will be the hen with a longest body and the last hen will be the shortest .
Second list is for who is the heavy. Hen 1 will be the heaviest and the last hen will be the lighter one.
Cheers
Don t forget the straightness of they legs . We don t want hens with X type kegs
Chooks man
don t forget to make this list my dear friend . very important .

you seem t5o have lot hens laying dark eggs lot keeper for now ,
lok to me like we don t need any pullets except if they are absolutly stunning to replace the older hens ,
what we need is a few great looking and correct cockerels to mate them to the hens next breeding season ,
if I understand ; from the pullets pen we selected 4 hens as a keeper plus 3 dark eggs layers .( no tag ,#115 and #114 )
from the cockerels pens we selected 4 hens plus one dark eggs layer ?
is that correct ?
if it is correct that will give us 12 hens in total as keepers .

@Punkybrewster
I worked the thing out .
First group keeper are ; 139 ,146 ,150 ,169 plus 167 = 5 total .
second group keeper are ; Moonshine ,136j ,131 G ,144 plus no tag , 114 and 115 = 7 total .
yes we have 12 hens 'more than enough for sure .

Moonshine and Lovesong they will be penned with JR the rest 10 hens will stay will good Comb
plus ccockerels and pullets .( I don t think we need pullets at this time ) for sure we need more cokerels to select from hope we will get some extra from Moonshine and Lovesong .
if we find 2 great and correct cockerels to breed them to the keepers hens your troubles of breeding marans will be soon over .

Yes. That's correct.
12 keeper hens.

@Punkybrewster
out of the 2 roosters you have witch one has a better type .JR or Nicecomb ? nice legs too .
you said JR is narrower with X type legs /
how about Nicecomb ?what are his faults ?
chooks man
I will get some photos today if I can.

Jr has a very bad attitude.
The chicks coming from him have nice hatch down.
His tail is a good angle, good copper but he lacks mass And stands tall.
He has some white underfluff that is hidden.

Mr. Good Comb I would say is better type.
His chicks have longer hatch down and more penguin color.
He has a slight halo and some white in his tail.
He is stocky and lower to the ground, tail held at proper angle but a shorter back.

@Punkybrewster
here the method I work with to classify who is the best chooks in the farm ( best hens or best cockerels )
I have made many list each list is for one trait and each list has 10 spots ;Example
10 dark egg layer = 1 DA , 2LS , 3Mdna ect ................
10 best body type = 1 MS , 2LS ,3DE. 4 DA etc..................
10 best legs = 1 DE ,2 Brahma , 3 MS .4LS . 5 DA etc......................
10 best tails ; 1 MS , 2 DE , 3 WO , 4 DA etc........................
10 best hackle marking ; 1Mdn , 2 LS , 3 Measha . 4 copper tie .etc............
10 best plumage . 1 LS , 2 Mdn , 3 Sahara. 4 MS , 5 DA etc...........................
10 best combs ; 1 Sleaka , 2MS ,3 Mdn. 4 Brahma , etc.................

if I classify the hens recording to how many time they apeared in the 7 lists .I will get =
- DA 5 and MS 5 times
LS 4 and Mdn 4 times
-DE 3
BRahma 2
Sleaka 1 , Meash 1 , Copper tie 1

result are Dark Angel and Mama Sasha are the best 2 hens . but the list is not complete to number 10 .
hope this method will help you to classify your hens .and knowing who is the best .take your time .

I see now .
JR is body color and complete patern breeder .
GComb is body type and mass breeder . Iet see how his progeny turn up .are they chunky or not ?

I am still sexing the chicks from his pen. I was going to keep only the pullets. I was not sure how many hens we were keeping.
These photos are examples of the chicks. There are more cockerels to cull from here.
