International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

She's been laying for approx. 2 months now, she lays around 3 eggs a week.
I have gotten 24 eggs so far, I am waiting to hit the 30 egg mark to finish up.
As of now her eggs average out as a 4.

This egg (as well as all her past eggs) had speckles on them, maybe I am nuts but I hope that means she will eventually lay even colored eggs that are darker.
In your experience is that pretty typical or do girls that lay speckled eggs continue to lay a speckled egg?

my favorite marans eggs are the speckled one .

there is 3 type of marans eggs color. all accepted and bred for . all are genetic trait not fully understood yet ,but will be inherited by the following progeny .
1) plain dark .majority of the marans hens .in this case the mucus responsible for painting the egg does spread the paint evenly .like a thin film . Cheetah my cuckoo hen lay this sort of egg .
2) speckled one . in this case the paint get released as dot . ET my wheaten hen lay this sort of eggs . majority of her eggs are speckled
2) dotted .this one are uniform n the color but with a small even dot darker the egg shell . Shakeara my Black copper lay this sort of eggs only a hand full wen she start laying

speckled on the 4/5 colored egg is not impressive ,but when the egg color reach 6/7 or over than the speckle come a live . Belgian marans strain have this sort of genes . The french are getting some of this blood line to work with .

here my Black copper hens ( you can say the black hens )
one with a little copper ,Shakeara 3.2Kg
one is black ( my favorite ) Soumaya,3.7 Kg
2 sisters Birchen with a Gold leakage . Vicky 3,7Kg and Baby Oz 3.3Kg

they all have a great mass above average .
they all have long back and nice tail except Shakeara , tail too high .
all have nice orange eyes except Baby Oz one eye correct and one brown
all have nice comb Not great but good
all have feathered shanks except Soumaya.

I m well happy with Saffron , he will compliment then well .he is correct in every aspect except he is on a smaller side

I m expecting 100% Blue copper . let see how they will look like .

he is looking and behaving like the rooster .
the hens are well happy I got ready of the old blue copper ( Big Blue) rooster from they pen.

was the hardest pen to put together 5 different roosters to find the best one BALANCE .

I m happy ,
Saffron is happy .
the hens are happy too .

Harmony is achieved between the chooks breeder and the breeders flock .

I too enjoy the speckles.
Egg color is one of the reasons I love the Marans so much, lets be honest... everything about the marans is great haha.

Some of my eggs today.

Two eggs on the left are small dots.
Middle egg no variations in color at all.
Two on the right BIG dots.

The thing I like the most about my Marans is how they talk. It is quiet and sweet. It sounds like they are asking questions. Gabby never stops talking and every time I turn around she is right under my feet. I worked on income taxes all day. Maybe some "description" pics of the pullets this weekend. Chooks man never lets up..... thank goodness.

The middle egg is how most of mine look... dots and speckles are so fun.

Ahh, the many wonders of Marans.

I too love their disposition, they are very level headed and are quite friendly compared to a lot of the other dual-purpose breeds I have owned.
I have a mixed girl that acts like Gabby in the ways you mentioned, always under foot and speaking haha.
