Cant answer your question for positive but my Betty is all black and lays a very pretty dull sheen egg. She hasn't laid in awhile tho.

I named her after the Black Betty song by Ram Jam.

I’ve been calling her Betty for the same reason!!! The one with the copper color is Penny. I also have a Jersey Giant named Gena after the Gena that Bon Jovi sang about.

The big chicks already flying up onto chairs and perches, all marans now showing copper in the hackles (the blue one very slightly). The little fella appears to have been adopted by a broody silkie.View attachment 3623198

your marans chicks have a correct colored blue eyes for that age .
nice looking too and great photo of them all chilling out on the roost bar .
the blue chicks with his silky mama is a slow feathering type .

My marans are just over 9 weeks old. Yesterday I moved them from the grow out pin into my main flock. That went extremely well. They have been next to each other but no touching for several weeks. When I opened the door to let everyone together a couple of the big girls started chasing the little ones but Oster(my leghorn mix cockerel) put a stop to it immediately.
Now everyone is playing nice. The big girls and the little ones mostly go separate directions and don’t interact a whole lot and I’ve seen a few little squabbles but nobody looks to be in any danger.

they are nice looking chicks . long body type .
some time the copper will show late and some time they stay black .there is a lot black hens in a BCM popullation .more work need to be done to fix it .

Mine have been eating 20% protein all flock feed since 4 weeks old. I had a lot of feather picking and missing feathers early do to overcrowding. I moved them outside, re homed a few, and switched them to high protein to help with feather regrowing. I don’t know for sure if the protein made the difference but it sure
looked like they hit a growth spurt when I changed the feed.

today I switched on 2 of my river s incubators to let them adjest them selves for few days .they have been off for a couples of years now . took few adjestement to get them going but they are spot on now .in 2 days I think I ll have enough eggs to fill them up .start getting excitted .been a very long time I haven t hatched chicks .

they reached the correct temperature of 37.7 DC. great
I switched on the hatcher too to see if still working .all good reached a proper temperature of 37,2 DC happy about that

I ll be using a lot of eggs to get few chicks for sure , I don t mind it as long as I get few chicks I ll be happy other wise I m just going to eat those eggs or give them away .

He’s not just slow feathering but he’s really not growing much (still growing but just little bit), he was half the others’ size and now he’s about a third of their size. He’s eating and drinking, the same feed as every other chicks, and otherwise seems healthy, so I don’t know if it’s genetics. The Welsummer Rooster died of heart failure likely related to old age about a fortnight after the egg was laid, if he was the sire I don’t know if old age could affect the offspring like this.
