International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

It's best to have a plan b set for when it all goes wrong..
(Separation pen) them boys are going to wreak havoc.
I do have a plan B. The grow out pin that I used to house this younger batch of birds until they were big enough to introduce into the main flock. The coop part is currently being used as dry storage of feed but I could be put back into service in less than an hour if needed. Plan C is I do have a few friends that might be in the market for a rooster depending their needs when the time comes. Plan D I do have a large soup pot.

Your better prepared than I am... 👍

Thank you. If my marans are not up to breed standards I will likely try breeding them to my Easter egger and olive egger girls. Since there are no breed standards for EE or OE the only thing that makes any difference is egg color. Eggs don’t even have a standard color lot of people want variety.

I guess I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing for now and see how they look and behave as they grow. For now I have a very well behaved flock as a whole but everyone is still young. I have a total of 15 pullets and 3 cockerels all 6 months old or younger sharing a coop. Everyone seems to know there place in the flock. From what I understand this could change any time as the cockerels grow into full roosters.

when we don't have a perfect roo we work with what we have. if your roos have everything else as they should then they are not culls. there is no perfect bird. let them grow.

btw, I had blondie boys throw good birds. hens with mahogany or totally black can improve hackles.

You are right, plus his comb is incorrect as it is missing much of the important hind part ( in German it is called "Kammfahne"). I don't know the correct term in English, sorry.

yes his comb is not correct it is arched without blade .
the comb and the legs feathering are the 2 thing I wory less about because they are easy fix . parrasitic white is a nightmare to breed out .
