International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you for that! I appreciate it. She is our biggest pullet so she seems huge to me but I have no other BCM for comparison lol
Will any of this change as she matures?
Yes, she is likely to put on weight. Her eye might also redden as will her comb, which will increase points in the head. I don’t think her type will ever be fantastic, but her score may raise to a 60+ (still a better than average score) as she matures.

My rooster Axl has been standing differently today than usual. He is keeping his neck retreated and holding his head close to his shoulders. He typically stands tall and proud with his head and tail both up. Today he is just sort of scrunched up.

When he walks around he stretches out like normal no balance issues and he seems to be able to move his head normally so I don’t think it’s wry neck. I haven’t noticed anything odd with his poop or his appetite. Diet is mostly all flock 18% crumbles. But they have been getting a lot of garden scraps this time of year corn, cucumbers, pumpkin and brassicas. Not all at the same time just like when we put up corn we let them pick the cobs clean or if a cucumbers get overgrown and bitter they go to the chickens, etc

None of the girls are acting sick just him. attached are a couple snapshots of how he is standing today

looks like some issue with stomach/intestines. did you worm him? 2 hens next to him (last pic) seem to have the same issue, worms or they ate something.

I have never wormed them. Maybe they need it? Earlier yesterday I did re fill their dust bath. I used potting soil, ashes from out fire pit and a cup full of DE. Maybe there was something in the potting soil or fire pit that is upsetting their intestines

Any signs of molt? I have a couple hens in the mixed flock molting and they were acting pretty puffy and just hanging in the barn this morning with the cooler weather and wind.

There are loose feathers all over the yard and coop. I’ve been trying to decide if it’s all the young pullets going through their growth molts or if the big girls are dropping feathers too

Both of my are 3 year old hens. Esther the EE is one and a younger BR.
It's hard when they don't tell us what's wrong and we have to guess.

Wishing them the best, my friend.

Remember head spot and my grubby paws? 😅

Whatdo you use to worm them? I was told 1/3 of the pill for dog one time and repeat after 14 days....???

chicken's metabolism is much faster than dog's. I use double dog dose - if 1 dog's pill is for 10 kg weight I use it for 5 kg chicken weight. otherwise worms will become resistant. also I use different pills (fenbendazole, praziquantel, levamisole, etc.) each time as for dogs.
