International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

That's exciting you had good sales.. if you need eggs to replenish I can help but it'll be awhile, and multiple shipments with only the one pullet. And then there's that whole White male x Black Silver to consider. But I'm here for you if you need it...👍🤗🤣
Just thought of another option...
If you want a super fun BCM project I've got them eggs up the wahzoo.....🤣🤣

Either way I got ya covered. 🤪

What does your SBM pullet look like? If you posted it I must have missed it.

Excuse the coop mess..I haven't cleaned it yet today. They're 11 weeks old.

I’ve got a fun project, I don’t know if it’s anyone’s cup of tea.

If you bred the autosomal red from BCMs but bred them to be pure S/S, could you develop a yellow/cream/salmon birchen marans (or black cream marans)? I know they wouldn’t be a recognised colour and it might seem terrifying to a silver breeder but I can imagine that the males would look lovely. A similar idea would be breeding Wheatens and Silvers to make a wheaten based salmon variety.

you are right, it is a little terrifying. However, I have had a few neat looking males early on in the breeding project that had solidly straw colored wing bows.

Have you found that some forms of autosomal red affect the entire wing bow (and hackles), while some only affects the lower edge of the wing bow?
I ask because with my SDWs I’ve had more evenly coloured males with a slight straw tinge, or mostly white silver males with deep red around the edges of their wing bow.

were you sent a mixture of colours or is the white a recessive white which pops up? I can’t wait to see them as adults, I do like a good white marans cockerel.
They are from @Bantambird ’s eggs right?
I do indeed have recessive white in my flock, I don't actively discourage it so it pops up fairly regularly. It came in when I added the blue silver group in 2016, but I didn't get one to show up until 2018. It was a shocker at first, I thought it was a splash until she grew up to have no color at all. Since white is really the only official color my flock produces that would be APA accepted here in the states, I let my daughter have them if she wants to show.... except there's like one show here in Montana and I haven't had time to travel for shows anymore. There they sit, anyways! It is like a little surprise whenever I hatch the marans group.

Yes from Bantambirds BBS Silver flock. He's recessive white.

They are both fast becoming our favorites. Very well mannered, friendly and gorgeous of course. Now I just need more ...🙂
