International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I ll add he has a deep chest , nice flat and tilted back ,his tail is full and correct angle I think he will grow into it ,he is still young more growing and filling up to do ,nice legs well feathered and colored .gorgeous bright orange eyes .his copper could be more rich red . we love to see photo of him standing to show his stance . I know you are saying is camera shy but keep trying we are not in rush .

Thank you! He has really matured quickly this past month or so, so i’ll definitely work on some good profile pics. I think i’m going to use him as my main breeder this year.

Still not the couloir she hatched from, but Mole’s egg is getting darker. I’m hoping it’s still going to keep going to at least a 4 or 5.

I agree with the filling into his tail. I’ve found that some of my cock birds look best in their second year when they are fully matured and fattened up well.

Badger, my favourite of the dark cuckoos. Big chunky hen, bigger than all my marans females except Claudie and Chanel. Decent cuckoo barring, not too dark or glossy like some of her sisters. Small tail too. Her back is flatter usually than in these pictures. The dark lines seems to have longer legs than my coppers and silver cuckoos, but not too long.

I picked up Chanel today to treat her leg mites. She’s put on weight again after the moult, might be due to grower’s feed the young ones had. She’s maybe half a pound off my Brahmas in weight, very heavy. Good to see this time of year and for a hen her age, a sign she’ll make it through the winter. Her comb’s reddening so maybe she’ll start laying soon too.
