International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hello everyone!

I have been MIA for a while. I apologize for being so inactive. My  birds are well.
The chicks have grown so fast and I need to post pictures of a few... particularly my favorite cockerel.

They are little troopers. They live outside with their foster mom and they run about in the daytime even if it is below freezing temps.
I have to make them go inside at dusk and they all give me a ear full every time haha. I am impressed by them on a daily basis. They remind me of wild chickens in the way they act sometimes, fun to see them feel so comfortable no matter the conditions.

Now for the reason I was so inactive...

As many of you know my grandmother died in November, my family all agreed that we all felt a little incomplete since we no longer had anyone living next door.
We decided that we wanted to offer my grandmother's home to her brother, he accepted and we have all felt so much joy by having him here.
He has already started to tell us stories about his life and we all have enjoyed learning more about him.

Glad to hear from you! Cant wait to see pics of your chicks! That was a very nice thing you did for your grandmother's brother. I love hearing old stories too. Especially when they're about chickens. :)

look at his shank they are lighter color too .

you need to breed him to a Wheaten hen .

do no mate him to a Black /Blue copper marans . he is far too light and colorful for them .

you will get a good result with a wheaten hen for sure .

What would you expect from the wheaten cross? What would your game plan be? Ive never worked with wheatens or with crossing the blue/black coppers with anything different.

Would this handsome young gentleman be a good male for breeding? I'm considering purchasing him from someone local. I'm in NW Arkansas. Thanks for your input. I just don't know what specifics to look for

I would. He looks really nice.
What were you gonna breed him with?
You could put him with BCM hens and all the pullets hatched would be silver based like him.
Then breed the best pullets back to him.

Can you please explain this better? I have birchens and BCM but I'm 98% sure they will be separate at hatching age.
However, your comment made me curious. What would result from a birchen male and BCM female; or, a birchen female and a BCM male?
Silver based? what does this mean?
