International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Good news: I just pulled out one malpositioned chick who was definitely done cooking, and it seems to be doing fine so far! That makes 2 out of 8 with 1 egg yet to go. I guess those are decent numbers, though up to this point, I'd been hatching about 80% with shipped eggs. I'm more peeved that she admitted they were poor quality but didn't make any sort of offer to send more if I had a bad hatch. At least I took pictures and documented everything.

As far as LavAm boys go, I definitely don't need any more, lol! I've already got two 7mo cockerels (down from 5). I'd be thrilled to buy a started pullet or hen if I could get my hands on even one.
Wow I'm jealous! I've never had that good of a hatch rate on shipped eggs. Glad you got two babies at least! Hopefully they're both pullets then! Good luck and post pics! We all love chick pics!

And it is kind of crappy that she admitted they were poor quality and didn't even offer to send more. I think I would be insisting she send more.

Nooooo!!! Why did you have to flop your comb babe, why?!
when my roo is not feeling well or dehydrated his comb is floppy but as soon as he gets better his comb is up again. watch his health these days.

Here are two of my LavAms and one BCM. The hunchback on the left hasn't fluffed out all the way yet, lol. There's also a mutt from my Light Brown Leghorn in the back.

I have one more LavAm that's in rough shape but may pull through. It was touch and go yesterday when I found it sprawled out on its back, completely limp. I've been aggressively giving it vitamins and electrolytes, and he's perked up a little, but has an obvious case of wry neck. We'll see. I'm starting to think maybe the breeding stock didn't have proper nutrition...

It sounds as though you're probably right. But congrats on the chicks you did hatch! They are little cuties!

Nice looking chicks! Hopefully they will grow out to be good birds. Merry New Year, Keith

in the leaner time a little is better than nothing . you see when a breeder send eggs like the one they did to you ,that mean they are good people forget about it and keep looking after the chicks you have maybe you ll get a nice pair out of them worth all trouble . good looking chicks by the way .a black copper in the middle give it that contrast with a grey /white . nice photos in they little basket .better basket than mine .mine is a just a little box , I think is a time for me to get fancy too and get a nice basket to put the chicks .hahaha.............. we both have chicks that great . chooks man
