International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

ration feeding is a great method .
mix grain with corn is not problem .like you said ,the corn is in a small portion .

how many time you feed a day ?

chooks man

We like to feed twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening. But where we work we usually can only get one feeding in per day. They also scratch wheat straw and get scraps (bread, dry cereal, table scraps, etc). They are all healthy, but not fat.

If we put their feed in feeders, they get pellets only because they like to only eat the corn and grain and leave the pellets if they had a choice. lol

how is Copper comb compare to his sire ?

chooks man

Here are comparison pics of Cooper and his sire.

^Cooper (my LA cockerel)

^Cooper's sire in Louisiana

Cooper's comb is a little larger now than in the picture, but it has some frost bite damage now unfortunately. His back isn't has flat as his sire's, but he does favor him some. Cooper was around 7.5 month old or so in that pic.

Here is another pic of Cooper I have on my computer.

He should get more copper as he matures hopefully.

Here is a pic from the breeder of Cooper's sire and his 3 potential dames. This is an older pic of them from last spring. They were all a year old or less in this pic.

yesterdays I penned the 4 Blue copper hens with DJABEL BCM cockerel .
they luck the coppery hackles but they are great type
He has a truck load of colors to give to his progeny .

let see what will come out of this pairing .

can you see the couple of wild duck .they spend most of they time in the pen with the chooks . they demand to get fed too .
you think wild mean they don t like to be penned in .NOT this duck ,they have different idea .

DIABEL is very cool with a wild birds .he doesn t attack them like his brother Zambezi . cool dude

never give you hens corn . make them fat and lazy layer .

in a winter give them sunflower seed .20g /chooks .great for them .keep them worm and make they feathers oily SO they stay dried .
cat food is a great idea .extra protein .

you are doing well .just no corn please .

chooks man
no corn? even if I don't feed them commercial feed that already has about 70% corn?

my girls are great layers with about 25-30% corn in their diet. unfortunately luna is a great layer. from #5-6 she is down to #4-5. 5-6 eggs per week.

that why I m saying don t give them corn ,because is already in they feed .So they don t need more as treat .

Luna s seem to be a great layer like my Birchen hens. best layer in the farm .

23 chicks so far hatched last night and today .

they are in the laundry room where group 1 used to be before they got moved out .

my first 2 buff marans chicks from White Storm X Birchen hens . I was expecting them .
so White storm has the Db gene and the hens ,they carries the Co gene.So it is only matter of time that HERCULES Junior will show up . fingered crossed .
I like what White Storm is throwing ,great color pattern .

I m so happy that White Storm carry the gene I was looking for .

with this Bd gene and the Co genes I can make a new variety of marans .never bred before . Quail . let see .the Columbian first . I want to have HERCULES back so badly . Best looking rooster I ever had .even he was not as pure as he should be .

Happy Chooks man

The FRF pullet from the other group of BCM's has a smaller comb. I may be able to use her daughters in the future to correct the large combs in the LA line. All of my pullets in the LA line have large combs.
