International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Sounds like a good plan. I wanted to tell you - from the pictures - I like Copper better than his sire.

I need to separate Antonio from his girls but they are such a community..... I haven't had the heart.

Thank you! I am pleased with Cooper too. I think he will develop more color and hopefully fill out more as he matures.

I know, I hate moving chickens once they're settled in a group. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I have wanted to get out and take pics of the splash pullets in Mud's coop and take updated pics of the FRF pullet but it has been such a mess this weekend. It has been so cold, and now it is snowing.

I lost a cream legbar pullet today.

She was smaller and less vigorous than her hatch mates. Fortunately, it wasn't one of my better ones. She was oddly marked and looked too light/barred like a cockerel. But still sad.

Here are some LA eggs I set yesterday. The rest are games. I am loving the color so far. The LA eggs are averaging 62-65 grams.

yes, they are personal lines of BCM. the others can give you more details.

The abbreviations are lines of Black Copper Marans.  Some are well known lines, some are personal lines we are raising.

LP = Little Peddler Marans (Brenda Little).
GFF = Greenfire Farm

FRF = Feels Right Farm (Redbanks and I have birds from this line, Feels Right Farm is where our stock was bred.  Amanda of FRF originally obtained her stock from Little Peddler and Greenfire Farm.

LA = Louisiana, which is where the breeder lived where I obtained one of my lines.  I refer to them as LA to distinguish them from my other line.  They are Little Peddler and Bev Davis.

Welcome!  Glad you joined our thread.  Post pictures of your chicks when they hatch if you want.  We always enjoy seeing chick pics.  :)

Thank you. I was pretty sure it was, but wanted to be sure. Thanks for the acronym descriptions also.
I will get some pics on here soon.

Welcome to BYC and our thread!  There is a lot of great info here.  We have fun and we support each other.

Thanks for the welcome! Happy to be here. Great information.

I am sorry out lost the CL pullet. Cold here but our cold is mild. I am going to move all the coops to another location and that will be the time to shake things up.

Thank you. I would love for our winters to stay mild. Unfortunately February and even March tends to be very cold here.

Yeah better to stress them once, than to move them multiple times. Chickens take stress in stride so it won't be long and they'll get used to the changes.

Here's a couple pics of our new BCM chicks. ..and looks like a Blue egg was thrown in as extra.

Congratulations on your new chicks! The little blue chick was a bonus for sure. I have heard Chooks man talk about chicks with brown on their heads but can't quite remember what he said about them. Maybe he can chime in and help. @Chooks man

I like them
they have less white on them .
the one you holding with a brown dot is a pure BCM and is a pullet too ( majority of time) .sign of purity .
the other thing I like about her is .she has a black face no white ,great sign too .
color of her feet/shank .great ..

they must be using a Blue CM rooster or a Splash to get a Blue chicks .it is a gift

well happy for you .

I will stay another year without olive eggers. my only blue egger that started to lay passed away last night. suddenly. she was perfectly well and when she was back to coop in the evening she couldn't walk properly. I put her in the house where her legs got paralyzed or were stretched due to pain. she had tachycardia and spasms so I suspected she got poisoned. with charcoal and plenty of water she vomited but didn't make it. there is no sign of any poison or anything toxic in their coop/run. the other 7 birds that were with her are well. I am not sure what happened to her.

I tried to candle eggs but can see some eggs are dark inside. I have never candled before so I left it alone. I checked in internet and the pics of day 10+ look similar to what I saw, so I just hope.

sorry to hear about your loss.

they are healthy and running one day ,than dead tomorrow .

chooks life .

if the eggs are darker at 10 days ,mean there is a chicks growing there .all the best .good luck to you .

Thanks, @Chooks man
Breeder apologized for the blue. Said one got mixed in and she couldn't find it. She wasn't sure who ended up with it. I was happy to see the blue.
So, since the dot on chicks face is a sign of purity, should this show up every so often?
