International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks, @Chooks man
Breeder apologized for the blue. Said one got mixed in and she couldn't find it. She wasn't sure who ended up with it. I was happy to see the blue.
So, since the dot on chicks face is a sign of purity, should this show up every so often?

the brown dot is very rare to appear . can not be bred true OR no body has tried to do so .

I agree with you .nice to have a blue chicks .

can you ask your breeder .who is the parent of the blue chicks ? BCM X BLCM or Blue X Blue or Blue X Splash or Spalsh X Black copper ?

it is nice to know .make working with him or her easy .

Thank you for the info.
The breeder said the Blue was from Cottage Hill -Blue X Blue.

Sorry to hear about your CL! It's such a downer when a chick is lost.

Thank you! I hate losing chicks. We've only lost a couple this year, aside from some cockerels we culled, but I hate opening the brooder and finding chicks dead.

Is it possible your hen had Mereks? The paralysis sounds like Mereks. So sorry you lost your hen. It's always a bummer to lose chickens, especially when it's ones you really like or want. A chicken's heart rate is normally very rapid, and can reach as high as 350-400+ and still be normal. Their metabolic rate is a lot higher than that of humans and their heart has to work harder. I have read about heavy metal poisoning (lead) in chickens causing spasms (seizure-like activity), paralysis, and death. Buck shot from a shot gun, BB's from a BB gun, etc can be eaten by chickens thinking they are stones and cause poisoning.

it wasn't marek's. she was in pain and got sick and died within 3 hours. she kept vomiting and it was lack of oxygen that killed her. I don't understand what she ate to get poisoned. the coop and run are small in front of my porch so no chemicals or anything strange. no spoiled feed either (that couldn't kill in such a short time). I wonder if she might have eaten some hardware or similar as there is a possibility there are some left in soil. I simply cannot clean it if it is deep under the surface. or wild birds and rats brought something.

It could have been an old bullet or anything they've dug up out of the ground. Chickens will eat anything so its no surprise. They try to eat the nail polish off my toes if I make the mistake of going into the coops during warm weather. lol I've seen them eat broken glass, rocks, you name it. So sorry you lost your hen so tragically.

My FRF pullet laid her first egg yesterday.. it was a cute little thing. It weighed only 40 grams but had nice color. I took a picture but for some reason the reply box on BYC isn't giving me the option to upload a pic. Once BYC has fixed the kinks I will upload it.

I also wanted to share a funny thing I witnessed in Mud's coop yesterday morning. Mud was chasing the Splash pullets in his pen relentlessly and they would not surrender. He chased them in and out of the coop for quite a while. While he was chasing them, the little FRF pullet was chasing after HIM like "What about me??" lol

Apparently the Splash pullets do not reciprocate Mud's affections because all of their eggs so far have been infertile. He is on a mission. :D

Have a good day everyone!

my mario (the maran's daddy) is sick. I am doing my best and hope he will survive. but I have realized the place where I live is not good for chickens (bad climates).

as I am trying to sell my house I beg all of you to say just 1 word of prayer that I do sell my house and buy a better place for my chickens and hopefully add the other animals too (goats for sure).

my chicks are due in about a week. as I had a bad experience with a bad quality chicken starter the last time I had chicks I decided to feed the new chicks corn meal, home made sheep's fresh cheese and herbs and fresh greens + some olive oil.
