International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

"I don't only incubate only the dark eggs. bad practice...lazy layer lay darker eggs"

This got me thinking. I would think that we should set only the darkest eggs. At least toward the beginning of the laying cycle for similar aged pullets/hens. I agree that a pullet who doesn't lay as often should have darker eggs but considering the process it takes to make a dark brown egg dark brown, shouldn't one still only set the darker eggs all things considering? When you think of a tan egg layer breed or a light brown egg layer breed, they have the same process of tinting the eggs. Doesn't the lighter brown laying breeds have less tinting applied to the eggs? It surely doesn't mean the lighter brown laying breeds just lay more often, does it?
Marans are different breed ,they have they own genetic make up .

if the method of breeding only from the darker eggs is a true ,we should all have marans laying darker eggs .but we don t ,

here how to breed a marans .
we have to select a breeder not the eggs ..
when the pullet start to lay ,we have to collect her first 30 eggs . this first 30 eggs are a true genetic indication of her genetic make up .
the average weight of this 30 eggs is a true weight of the eggs not each individual egg .
the average color as well and shape/form/sheen

if we are happy with this first 30 eggs than the pullet who laid them is a breeder .and all her eggs should be incubated except the deformed one or small.

first egg of the week is always darker than the last one ,that doesn t mean is genetically better .
the egg get fertilized and all the genetic make up is transferred from both parent before the shall formation ..

if we just go to the pen , collect all the eggs and select the darker one to incubate .we ll be going no where .

we need to know witch egg come from witch hen/pullet to breed properly .

This is a young hen from late last spring early summer last year, I'm noticing some extra white on her wings. Is this remove her from the breed group? Her silver on her hackles is pure, no yellow, but the white on the wings bugs me...

all depond on the rooster .if he has white on him than you have to pull her out of the breeding pen but if the roo is fine than breed from her and tag her progeny and select from the ones without parasitic white .

I like her she is a great type .wide shoulder and flat long back .she have a lot to offer . what color are her egg ?

love her silver hackle .

Jake is my main cock. I have his son, but it's too dark for me to try and get a good pic of him. Jake, when I spread his wings, is showing me some white on the primaries! I just looked over Jr and did not see any white on the primary flight feathers like Jake, however, I noticed some gold bleed through on the wing bows. He is shaped very much like his daddy, but his color isn't as pure. He does have a few white flecks on his breast on the edges of a few breast feathers.
