cockerel1 Wheaten .well chunky and great type well colored ,his body is pure black no flaking . son of Maggy X Morgan ( line breeding .son over mom )

cockerel 2 ; Birchen .great body type. nice long flat back .well feathered shanks and strait ,nice thick head . well build ,son of Stockholm X Erickson2

cockerel 3 Birchen ,a true F4 mean his mama is Scandinavia ( the mother of them all ) X her F3 son/great son Viking2 .
viking 2 his father is Viking1 he him self is an F2 ( Scandinavia X her F1 son Erick.
this cockerel is the heaviest one and greatest body type ,nice pure silvery hackle start to show up


he is sublime .nice to have him around .he is the only chick i managed to hatch from Scandinavia before she passed away . she left a legacy . she done well

cockerel4 Birchen ;this one has a great pure silver hackle and nice body type .son of Helsenki X Erikson2

Cockerel 5; F1 Split white .from a Birchen hen X White Storm . love his silver hackle ,shouldn t be pure silver but it is .some other genes in play her .

cockerel 6 F1 Blue silver/golden cuckoo son of Bella X Shamrock . great body type ,well chunky and correct

there is more to come .they still young not fully feathered .

hi every one .are you guys sold your marans chooks ? any way here the up date of the little chicks .they are big and healthy now . a lot to choose from ; this pullet has a nice body type but she have also the white flaking on her chest . daughter of Tabrinne ( Toby ) this pullet has a nice coppery hackle and nice body type ,daughter of Shakeara. pullet 3 nice body type but no sign of any copper yet .her mama is black too ,Susan all the 3 pullets are the daughters of ZAMBEZI. pullet 4 Birchen ,nice body type and well spotted chest and silvery hackle . love her back long and flat. daughter of Copenhagen X Erickson2 pullet 5 Birchen as well ,great body type .nice flat back and well spaced legs and strait . really chunky ,Daughter of Stockholm X Erickson2 . this time I hatched less chicks than what i m used too but better quality and healthier chicks . i m loving to be around them .easy to care for better than 2and 3 thousand . chooks man

Cooper is definitely throwing a lot of middle toe feathering on his chicks. They are cuties though. My first bcm chick from Cooper is growing into a big robust cockerel. The blue copper is definitely looking like a pullet. I will take pics as soon as I can. I have plenty of Marans eggs in the incubator. Hoping for good hatches!

the marans chooks are long lived .

my Scandinavia was 6 year when she died . the extreme heat of this year .she was heavy too 4.4Kg .

in the future i ll keep the old ladies lighter on thy feet .

No I havent sold my Marans, LOL! Im out of town for work for a few days so I havent been able to post any pics. I did hatch 2 more BCM chicks last weekend but didnt get a chance to take pics. Cooper is definitely throwing a lot of middle toe feathering on his chicks. They are cuties though. My first bcm chick from Cooper is growing into a big robust cockerel. The blue copper is definitely looking like a pullet. I will take pics as soon as I can. I have plenty of Marans eggs in the incubator. Hoping for good hatches!

Ah copper is throwing middle toes feathering problem .
does he have feathers on his middle toes or his hens?

middle toes feathering is associated with vulture hook . both are extra feathering genes.

I will do that from this point on, as I intended to but the last two chicks got mixed up in the hatcher. Those big Marans chicks can push right through my rigged up basket separaters. Lol

Any chicks with heavy middle toe feathering will be banded with zip ties at birth and probably wont be used as breeders. Same with heavy parasitic white on faces. I want to be picky in choosing my future breeders.

Cooper has more heavily feathered legs so Im thinking he is the culprit for the middle toe feathering.

Hey looking for some info. I have had a sick rooster who I lost yesterday. He had been sneezing and wheezing. So I seperated him from the flock and gave him a round of water soluble antibiotic. Then added ACV to his water. He was eating and drinking. Then after a couple days he had a foot that he lost mobility on. He would "hop" around and make it work but it wasn't right. He had no swelling, nasal or discharge of any kind. His poop was normal. He was a year old blue copper Marans. What the heck happened?! What else should I have done? I really thought he was improving...My Marans hen has been sneezing about a week now but no other birds. Today she started losing feathers around her neck. all the other hens are fine... And all housed together. Any one have thoughts for me? I posted this on another medical thread but didn't really get any info

Any time you have a bird mysteriously die, you need to take it to the veterinarian, the state lab, or if you are so inclined, necropsy it yourself. I had one die last month during a particular cold spell, thought it was a liver issue or reproductive, but it turned out to be pneumonia, she had asperated a bit of food into her lung and it had become infected and that killed her. If you have a body, take it in!
