sorry to hear that.
I should have gotten this cockerel taken care of immediately! My 8 year old son went to lock up the coop last night as it was getting dark and all the chickens were at roost. He went into the pen and shut the door behind him [a habit I made him adopt] to access the pop door that needed shut. That cockerel came flying out of the pop door and started attacking him. My son couldn't get away from him as the cockerel was blocking his exit. Everytime my son went to go out the door the cockerel attacked him. So he had to just grit his teeth through the pain to get out of there. It is like this on both legs. He was wearing lined pants as well. I feel so awful. This is 100% my fault. A part of me thought the cockerel was just working out his hormones and would settle down. We don't have time for him to settle down. If he would have attacked my 2 year old lime this he could have been chicken food. Makes me sick thinking about it. When I get home this afternoon I'll have to take care of it.
I know this isn't contributing to the thread in a positive way but you guys are the closest to chickens friends that I have and wanted to share. Hopefully one of the chicks I hatched will be a much more gentle cock to our family.

animals attack when they are afraid. that's why I always talk to them, especially if I have to enter the coop when it is dark so they know it's me and they calm down. people think I am crazy but I know what I am doing.
