International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

We always love chick pic! How cute!! I love the color wheaten in chickens. We have several wheaten strains of gamefowl and they are beautiful birds. I would love to expand my color varieties of Marans but my hubby would shoot me! Lol.
kfelton0002, thank you. I must admit seeing all of chooks mans beautiful varieties has inspired me to try to add a few more to my own flock. I think the wheaten hens are so pretty. I hope at least one of these is a pullet.:fl Maybe your hubby will eventually give in:D I know there is going to be a day when mine finally says I have enough:(

The blue copper pullet I penned up (I have named her Dentelle, french for "lace"), laid her second egg today. It is slightly darker, closer to a 4.

Here is her 1st and 2nd egg side by side (1st on left, 2nd on right).

I like her second egg .#4 and large too .
there is an improvement ,that is great .
one generation at the time without loosing any other quality .

love your work and dedication .

Hi there,,,

May I ask what's the benefit of eggs marans? I mean is there any specific feature?

the marans eggs have 1 quality no other chooks egg posses .
marans eggs are resistance to the salmonella disease . because of the thickness of they shell .

this quality make the marans eggs superior than other .

dark colour of the egg is gorgeous but just cosmetic .

Here is another darker blue copper pullet I have. She is younger than Dentelle, but from the same father (Mud) and splash hen. She is a tad lighter than Dentelle but I think I may pen her up too. :)

@littlepeeps81

they are adorable .
the one in the middle is a boy . the other 2 are girls
nice hatch down .and well chunky .well feathered shanks
I like the pullet on the left ,her little legs are well spaced apart and she is plum like phenotype .

The Wheaten hen has the best body color of all the marans varieties . she look gorgeous when tall the 3 colors are balanced -dark hackle .wheat upper body and cream chest

Khaled, the Marans breed is prized for its dark russet egg color. It is the darkest hens egg. They also have a beautiful spherical shape and sheen. I have seen some where it is difficult to tell the point from the base. There is a color scale that you can look at for reference. Breeders want to maintain a 6 or 7 on the color scale with hopes for an occasional 8 or 9. My hens only lay a 4 at this time. I believe I have had one 5. I am no expert, and have a lot to learn, but it is a very beautiful and difficult breed to work with. The black copper marans lays the darkest eggs, but the other varieties can still lay a dark egg. Dedicated breeders work hard every day trying to enhance the egg color in their line while also trying to maintain the desired body characteristics. Marans are also prized to being a delicious table bird. Hope this helps a little. Some of the experts on here can chime in and give you better information.
Thanks a lot my dear
