O
she is stunning .
WHO told you she is darker .Actually she has the best blue marking and shade too ,plus the lacing .
the Blue color of the marans is a same as the the blue from the blue pigeon breast area .
she is proper Blue
you have to pen her my friend .don t exclude a gorgeous specimen like her from the breeding program .

Thank you! I meant she is darker than my other remaining blue copper pullets free ranging. The other two look washed out. She is lighter than her sister I penned up (Dentelle), but darker than my other two. Dentelle, that I currently have penned is the darkest of the 4.

Here is one of my lighter pullets. Not a good shot but its the best she would cooperate.

And here is my least favorite. Big Bertha.. huge fluffy butt and cushion, higher set tail also. My luck she will lay the darkest egg. She has a gorgeous comb though.

@kfelton0002

you have a stunning BLCM pullet 10/10 body type . tail ( angle and shape) and Blue plumage .
the comb I can t see it yet .
long and thick body ,well rectangular . true marans
nice flat long back
gorgeous tail ( she is the one who can help you fix the bad tail ). great asset
deep chest
solid stand well balanced
great plumage .free from any fluff
wings well held close to her body .

she ll throw great progeny if mated to a proper cockerel . I mean realy great progeny cockerels ( son s ) .pullets as well

Thank you so much for your assessment of her. I am able to see the better looking ones when I have time to come out and sit with them. I will get her penned with Maximus (her half brother) and Dentelle, her full sister tonight once she goes to roost. She's a shy girl and minds her distance. :)

@littlepeeps81

they are adorable .
the one in the middle is a boy . the other 2 are girls
nice hatch down .and well chunky .well feathered shanks
I like the pullet on the left ,her little legs are well spaced apart and she is plum like phenotype .

The Wheaten hen has the best body color of all the marans varieties . she look gorgeous when tall the 3 colors are balanced -dark hackle .wheat upper body and cream chest

Thank you chooks man. I was hoping I would get a male and female. I have terrible luck with shipped hatching eggs. I wish I had your ability to know whether male or female at this age. I was leaning towards male for the middle chick. Larger head, beak, and legs seem a little bigger. Body a little bigger. He's a tad taller. The chick on the left seems smaller, a smaller head, and more feminine. The chick on the right I just wasn't sure. I know the BCM chicks males and females have lighter and darker shank color. But I have alot to learn about wheatens. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom.

you welcome .
keep practicing .one day you ll get there .
the wheaten variety is easy to sex after the first week or 2 .
pullets will be red and the cockerels will be black .

good luck
