I am a huge chicken nerd, and I found a really cool video on youtube about different breeds of chickens from many different countries. I enjoyed watching this video so I wanted to share.

Sue's has a beautiful copper color but I'm thinking the eyes make him less desirable. They were black but now are getting mottled. New pics for feedback please!. One of them has to go soon. Sue is shown in the last 4. Chester is the rest.
What color are the bottoms of Chester's feet? Sue looks to have correct colored legs/skin, but Chester's feet look like they have a yellow tint in the pictures. It could just be the lighting making them appear that way. Marans should have white/pink soles and skin.
Sue is a little darker and carries more melanizers than Chester, but his eyes are not black or solid brown. His eye color is not a deal breaker. I have a cockerel with similar colored eyes I will be using this year. Eye color can be corrected.
Chester looks like he will have a higher tail than Sue. Chester does have good back length, and good type. His eye color is good. Chester has a lot of color on his breast, too much color - which can be used to balance out darker pullets.
I really like Sue. When he reaches his full color potential as he continues to mature he will be stunning. He looks like he will have nice tail angle and I love his blue color. His type looks good. His comb is bad, the blade touches the back of his neck and the blade is split but that's not a big deal. As Chooks man has taught us, comb can be corrected by a nice combed pullet. His ear tufts are darker than Chester's but I think he is still your best bet.
Adorable little fuzzy butts!!!So yeah, this is mostly the view I have of my chicks at the moment, not too scientific! View attachment 1158822
Can't wait to see your pics!!!Your pictures are beautiful and you inspire me.
I think I will try my hand at taking some artsy Marans pics. I just need to gather some adequate props to use.![]()
Defiantly something I may try!The white spot on Radar's head indicates the presence of the barring gene, so he is looking like a Cuckoo Marans to me. You can use Cuckoo Marans and Black Copper Marans to create Golden Cuckoos also. It was a project I wanted to try, but for lack of pen space, I parted with my Cuckoos to focus on my BCM's.
I am afraid I may need to cull Zorro and possibly the chicks too! I will post a pic first, and await your advice, but little Jazz is showing signs of having brown feathers on his wing tips. Making me wonder if Zorro could possibly have Wheaten in his bloodline or something else. Feeling bummed. I really want my BCM lines to be pure.she still have a right amount .
like you said ,the time will tell
keep them safe
