his comb still makes me cry but his body shape and mass are good. we shall see his true colour later. his sweet character makes me want to keep him forever.

I am not sure if the bottom of his hackles are gold or light copper.
chickengr, that gold on your cockerels hackles are kind of what my chick is getting on his wing tips, only a tad darker. And his father Zorro's chest markings are kind of that color as well, and spreading down his chest as he matures. Your second cockerel is my favorite. Very pretty hackle on your pullet. How many BCM do you have now?

This is today and there 6 months old
bald Rooster, your cockerels are beautiflul, I really like the color of the cockerel in the front. He has a lot of mass. He is back is so wide and his neck is very broad and beautiful. His eyes are pretty, but from the pictures do not look as deep orange as the cockerel behind him. I think the front cockerel has the nicest comb of the two, and nice flame in his hackle. Also both have nice copper ear tufts. Only real fault I see is that his tail set is a little high and his back is a little short. He has pretty shanks and leg feathering. Your second cockerel is very nice as well, his hackle is lighter, he has a very nice long back and a longer neck. Looks like his tail set is better. His comb is bigger though. I really love the coloring and the mass on the cockerel in the front, but your second cockerel in the back is closer to the SOP body wise I think. Both are gorgeous and have great qualities to pass on to their offspring. Well done. Please keep in mind I am still learning a lot about marans. I could be wrong about some of these things. I really think both are gorgeous and have something to offer.

Sue need special hens to be mated to and a lot progeny to be hatched too if you want to use him over a BCM hens .
he has few good thing .but they are not sex linked . they can passed down from the Dam
what he is lucking is a sex linked trait we need rom the rooster to produce nice /correct progeny ,because they sire more then the hens .

HERE WHAT WE NEED ROM THE COCKEREL /ROOSTER . the things they need to excel on
1) eye color ( bright orange)
2) lovely body marking ( hackle .saddle and lancet) and type of color
3) body color.
4) correct tail
5)Ears tuft ( coppery colored similar to the hackle)
6) shoulder marking

Chester ; can cover any hen BCM /BLCM and SPCM .
any thing he is missing could corrected by the hens. like mass . that all what he lucks .

if we want to increase the size o the chooks than we have to select a biggest hens
if we want a colorful chooks than we have to select the most colorful Rooster

chooks man
Hensanddoes, this is a very good explanation from chooks man as to why you should choose Chester over Sue! Please disregard everything I said!!! I think I need to be quiet until I get the hang of this a little better:oops:.

This is a older but better picture of him. In these I posted today he was trying to get away from me and does not have a good posture. there both bruisers for 6 months old!
They out weigh my RIR and my EE rooster.

:) I've had them in with the big girls and roo since 6 weeks when mama weened them. I wouldn't say he is mean. Just seems protective of the rest of the flock. These three babies haven't been handled - I let broody do all the work. My Cochin roo wasn't handled either. Just had to learn to trust me. I think I just need to spend more time in there.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm keeping Chester and will find him some good BCM ladies in the spring. I can't wait!

I make sure my roosters know I am top rooster. I go out of my way to walk right into him so he has to move. Sometimes I follow him for a few steps. If I really was a rooster that is what a dominant rooster would do. I never deviate my path to accomodate him. I have been lucky no mean roosters.

I have 1 roo, 1 hen, 8 pullets and 2 cockerels that will stay + 1 cockerel that will go to my friend's flock.

my cockerels are still molting so I am waiting to see their true colour. the first one has a lot of growing feathers that's why he looks dark. before molting he had gold on his hackles too.
