This is where our "tail" problem comes from but the copper is heavenly.
One is LP, one is GFF. FRF roostersView attachment 1163507 View attachment 1163520
I was outside painting lamps when one of my hens walked by, it struck me how beautiful she was. They look so good when they just finish molting. What I couldn't get over was her hackle. It gleamed like shiny copper - none of the other hens look like this right now. It isn't mahogany or that orangey color. I remember the copper on those two roosters of FRF. It was incredible. So my question in the most rudimentary terms, is her hackle sex linked from the rooster? I would not have thought of this at all except for Kfelton0002s question this morning. Thanks Kayla.View attachment 1163458 View attachment 1163460
Good question.
Sex linked genes are group of genes related to the Chooks Sex.
The Rooster have both copies and the hen have only one copy. The other is not expressed.
The Rooster will pass down both copies to his progeny. Male and female
The hen can only passes one copy to her son s only not daughter s.
Gold and Silver. Hackle. Saddle and lancets. All Sex linked. So the cockerels will inherit those colours from both parent.
The pullets will only get those colour s from they father
I have to go the delivery man is here

View attachment 1163219 When I was packing my eggs I wanted to put the fat side up. I guess I haven't really paid a lot of attention to their shape. Sometimes it was kind of hard to tell the fat side. Very happy with my eggs.

Yes, Chooks man says that females inherit their hackle color from their sire only. Males get their color from both their sire and their dam. I am committing that to memory. Chooks man is a wealth of knowledge.
thank you my friend .
we ll go over all those genes ,one by one
when we understand the difference between the sex linked and the autossomal genes .we ll be able to breed great chooks .plus it make it easier to select the breeding pens ,who goes with who . what reason behind it .

The LP rooster was the one on the left correct, with the white in the tail? The color of my little FRF cockerel is looking very similar to them. Those high set tails haunt me in my sleep. I lay awake thinking about how I will fix them some nights.. true story. lol
I'm a little nuts.![]()
