International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Antonio's son.
His ear lobe is not white although it looks like it in these pictures. His tail is l-o-n-g. His body looks to me like it has a rectangular shape but I may be coop blind.
He has a white feather in his wing but that has never been a problem with my roosters they are gone by adult molt. I don't know if he has the mass I like. He is young, 12 weeks.
Good comb so far
nice eye and beak color
good leg color and correct feathering
good color tufts/saddle so far and hackle
Sorry about the pictures, everything scares him, poor thing he is always by himself.

He is going to be something else! Look at that back length! :love

He looks like he will have beautiful tail set/angle. He still has a ways to go, and may get chunkier. If not, pair him with a few of your big chunky Gabbys and that should do the trick. lol.

@kfelton0002 I bought the Genesis. I want to do some culling of old stock.

Good I'm glad you got one! Now I can send you some eggs when you want some. When the stingy things start laying. The pullets with Maximus laid a few eggs and quit because of our crazy autumn weather.

Are you culling from the brood pen and making the culls layers only, or are you going to part with the culls?

I like having fewer chickens. I think I will cull by selling. The woman that bought my chickens was disappointed I wouldn't sell any BCM. She just wants them for the egg color. I have a couple with horrendous 90 degree tails. Now I am having tail nightmares!

I always loved this picture and story. It is from Florida Memory. This picture is from about 1962. I know it is off topic but it reminds me that chickens don't need $3000 coops.
  • "Billy Bowlegs III's chickens roost in the live oak pictured below. The smooth metal sheet wrapped around trunk of the tree keeps the coons and opossums from climbing the tree to catch his chickens. The chickens walk up the board leaning against the metal, and fly up to the bar of wood that Billy has his hand on, and then walk up into the tree to roost."

I took some updated pictures of Maximus, my FRF x LA cockerel. He is shaping up to be a decent looking boy, despite his ugly comb. His tail angle and back length are a huge improvement from his sire's (Mud). I really like his eye color and shank color/feathering also. He has pure red ear lobes, his wattles are nice and round. He could use a little more depth to his breast and he isn't as chunky as I would like. He is missing a few tail feathers, but I am liking what I see for the most part.

Maximus is your way out of a lot trouble .
all the sex linked genes are there . the comb is not ,can be fixed by the hen too.
just his eyes a lone are an asset to you .plus his spotted chest .
a tail is going to be help full too .

great job .BRAVO
