International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am not sure but I think there are differences in the tail. I think the U.S. calls for more open tail. I think the french is more upright pointy. To be honest I don't know. I hope chooks man will come on and clear this up.

This is too minor to worry about right now..... unless you have horrendous tails like my birds!

Some of the girls...... the baby chicks will be 4 weeks in a couple of days. The cockerels already have hackles.

Well look what I found! These where pictures taken back the end of march. Back before my BC rooster lost his tail. He was shipped before Christmas 2016. That would make him 4 to 41/2 months old in these pictures. That would make him 1 year old now. He was in the batch of chicks that I had shipped from Julie. That would make him and the light hens pure Bev. So would he be a good one to use over the two light hens?

If you keep breeding blue x blue without using a black, the blue will be more and more washed out each generation from what I have read. All the blue gene is that is responsible for the BBS (black, blue, splash) is a black diluter. Black is diluted to blue, and then even more so diluted to splash. If you breed blue x blue you will get a mix of blue, black, and splash chicks. If you breed black x blue you will get 50% blue and 50% black. It is really up to your personal preference as to how you would like your blues to look. I have read that the lighter the blue, the lighter the copper can be, diluting the copper to a yellowish or straw color. Chooks man can give more experienced info on this subject. This is only my second year working with blue coppers.

I would like for my blue coppers to look darker blue like this girl, Dentelle. This is an older picture of her, I couldn't find a more recent pic on my laptop.
