International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

When I raise chicks I don't use medicated feed, I have too many ages/sexes that are sharing spaces on occasions.

I keep all my birds on a mix of 16% protein mixed with 23% protein game feed, it is very hard to find chick crumbles or even flock raiser around here.

I also feed Farmers Helper UltraKibble, I feed it at a ratio of 1 to 10 with their normal diet, it contains different meats and plants that help the birds remain a bit more efficient feed wise.

Of course my birds don't eat a whole lot of feed most days, they free range a portion of the day in the yard with my 3 dogs.

Summer is the best season for them to find grubs, crickets, worms and frogs. My birds can often be seen in a tug-of-war over a lizard or frog, it is quite the experience.

Gabby had to photobomb the pictures. She is one of those hens that is always in the middle of everything. She pecks at my muck boots. Follows me around complaining all the time, bawwwwwwk.
Gabby is quite a looker. I hope to have hens like her one day. Hoping Otis will put the color in my Copper Blacks and Blues but it will be several months before I see the results.

Quote: For us it is not IF you will get cocci but WHEN. I am treating all for cocci right now. Three days of Corid water for everyone. I saw a bloody poop. I don't waste time waiting to see what might happen. It is raining right now. It has rained every day this week. Hot, humid, wet ground. I did let them out today. I am here all day and I just wanted them to get out.

Thank you.  I have to take pictures of the other girls.  I want you to see them and help me match them up to roosters.  Maybe I can get some sun tomorrow.

I'll be happy to offer an opinion and I'll ask the same when my youngsters are ready for the breeding pen.

Your climate is pretty much like mine. The frogs don't stand a chance. When I first moved here the ticks were so bad. I have not seen a tick all summer. They eat ant larvae, thank goodness, the fire ants are so bad. Where do you buy Farmers Helper UltraKibble? I used to live in Red Banks Mississippi and go to Jackson for the Dixie National.
