Your climate is pretty much like mine. The frogs don't stand a chance. When I first moved here the ticks were so bad. I have not seen a tick all summer. They eat ant larvae, thank goodness, the fire ants are so bad. Where do you buy Farmers Helper UltraKibble? I used to live in Red Banks Mississippi and go to Jackson for the Dixie National.
I like this pullets type, mass, head and tail. Copper hackles not as pronounced as Gabby but looks like she is still maturing. Does she have a long back? Pic makes it look like she has a short back to me. I'm thinking Bello for this girl.
I like these two girls as well. Good type, nice long backs, strong heads, good tail sets but not quite the mass as Gabby or the first pullet you posted. I'm thinking Antonio with these ladies would produce pullets with very good type, mass and balance. It will be interesting to see how Chooks Man would match your Coqs and Pullets to balance out their progeny. RedBanks - Looks to me that the pullets in Posts #810 & #811 are the same, correct?
When I raise chicks I don't use medicated feed, I have too many ages/sexes that are sharing spaces on occasions.
I keep all my birds on a mix of 16% protein mixed with 23% protein game feed, it is very hard to find chick crumbles or even flock raiser around here.
I also feed Farmers Helper UltraKibble, I feed it at a ratio of 1 to 10 with their normal diet, it contains different meats and plants that help the birds remain a bit more efficient feed wise.
Of course my birds don't eat a whole lot of feed most days, they free range a portion of the day in the yard with my 3 dogs.
Summer is the best season for them to find grubs, crickets, worms and frogs. My birds can often be seen in a tug-of-war over a lizard or frog, it is quite the experience.
Thank you Chooks Man. I know it was confusing for all of you. I will take pictures of each one, numbered. There are two groups. There are 4 in Gabby's group and 6 in the second group. The second group is a month younger, pink combs.![]()
