International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you! I sure hope he molts them out. I just hate to see white in them, its a pet peeve of mine. The white under his hackle will persist, this I am certain. Just like his father and grandfather before him. The white is a pain in my backside. Lol
I agree with the white being a pain. I have that problem too! It pops up mostly in the foot feathers and sometimes in the tail feathers.

The white foot feathers can be caused by damage to the follicle, or so I've been told. If they have white feathers in the feet and nowhere else, it's caused by damage so that's no big deal at all.

Lucille is a mama! I gave her 5 chicks out of the incubator, 3 BCM chicks and 2 Legbar cockerel chicks. She is taking good care of them so far. Pardon how rough her feathers are. She was Maximus's favorite lady.

I still do not know where I am going with my flock! I just don't even know what to work on first. It really is just a mess! Most of my chicks that I hatched are pure Bev. So that is good I think. I tagged some from last year's hatch that could be mixed Bev/ my friends hen. Her hen had a open tail. None of the chicks from last year ended up with a open tail. I could split them up and make two pens but they could all be pure Bev. Any input would be awsome!

Here is my advice to you, disregard the "names" of the lines your birds come from. Look at them in regards to their qualities only and select your breeders accordingly. Balance faults of this bird, with good qualities of that bird when you set up your breeding pens. Hatch a bunch of chicks and cull hard. Once you make that first choice as to which birds you select as breeders, they are from then on your line. :)
