International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I ended up bringing my cull boys back home with me from the swap. There wasn't any interest. That's ok though. I'll just raise them up the rest of the way and we'll eat them.

I dont blame you, I would keep them and eat them. I had a friend tell me he knew a lady that was looking to buy a bunch of roosters that were old enough to eat. She only wanted to pay $3-5 a piece for them. I'm not selling grown out roosters for that when I've got at least $20 in feed invested in each of them. Yes I think we'll just eat them all ourselves. Lol

Speaking of eating roosters, I made a big pot of chicken and dumplings using one of my cull cockerels we processed and they were amazing. I cooked for our neighbors because they helped us with our fence and the whole pot got eaten. :)

Still finding the pullet eggs everywhere!

Don't need a lap roo lol but I'll take calm and quiet :)

Believe it or not, I have several Marans cockerels free ranging that are constantly underfoot. They're so bad I have accidentally stepped on their toes before. There are two that will come up to me and let me pick them up and pet on them like they enjoy my affection. They will even stand and let me pet on them. It blows my neighbor's mind how tame they are. I can easily catch any of them without chasing, even Griffin the 15 month old Marans cock bird that runs with my layers. They are the most gentle and tame chickens I own. I have never owned a mean one either, but Maximus seems to be more grumpy these days now that his Queen is broody. Not mean, just not as friendly as he used to be.
