My last hen is beautiful and feminine. I want that type. She's a nice bird.

Honestly a source closer to home was the biggest draw of these birds. The photos of them don't show enough to be sure of the rest of their build. They look okay, but not phenomenal.

I'm trying to go back to the original source of my birds.

Long story short my roo was sterile and one of my hens was eaten by a fox. I only had one fertile hen to work with last year. I culled my senior roo last fall and kept the sterile one.

I've got one stunning hen and that's it.

I'd like more. Id like birds that lay better but I want them to quality.

thanks guys. To me the hen was the most alarming, and I personally don't like that look on a cockerel, the very heavy comb and wattles.

Compared to my original stock the eyes do seem droopy to me and it is just off putting.

I'm not sure what I'll do.

can we see pics of your original stock?

I gotcha! So the original source can't help, would they put you in touch with someone they sold birds to? I would be lost if I had to start over, even here I don't know where I would go, LP or GFF I guess.

I remember when you got your originals. I think around the same time I did.

GFF is a barrier to me in Canada. My birds traced back to GFF, and the breeder brought in New imports last year. So that was my plan, to go back to them. I just thought new blood woudlnt necessarily hurt.

Don't outcross if you like what you have. You are just asking for more problems. No new blood is necessary. Little Peddler had 2 or 3 birds and never went out. I won't either.

They'll produce some ugly hybrids. But I know a lot of people who keep guineas and chickens together. Guineas will terrorize young chickens though, I know this for a fact. We had some to take up at the house a few years back. We dont know where they came from, they just showed up and wouldnt leave. I had a ton of grow outs free ranging and the guineas would chase them all over the big bluff behind my house. That was real fun fetching them and trying to get the chickens all rounded back up. Needless to say, the guineas didnt last long.

I ended up bringing my cull boys back home with me from the swap. There wasn't any interest. That's ok though. I'll just raise them up the rest of the way and we'll eat them.

The ones that were at my house must have been mostly males then. I cant tell the difference. There were 4 of them, one normal colored one, a pied, a lavender looking one, and a light brown looking one. They were pretty and we would have let them stay if they hadn't been such jerks.
