International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I may have missed it if you discussed this already so my apologies if its repeated but do you breed just for your personal hobby or do you show/sell as well @RedBanks ?
I don't show and to date I haven't sold any.... I have given away a lot of chickens and eggs. A couple of people recently have asked to buy chicks. Strictly hobby.

I actually like that cockerels eyes. I was going to keep him just for his eyes. They are a beautiful orange, hoping the others just haven't fully developed their eye color yet. The halo on him is so slight not like the cockerel that Monique said not to use. You have to take the bad with the good and he has a lot of good.

I bet that halo will fade as he matures. If they are only 6 months old they are even more impressive. Your keeper could have a longer back but boy is he full bodied.

He was probably just blinking but I didn't think of that when I posted. They are all nice. Curious- what makes your choice more favorable than the rest?
The one standing behind him that you can't see is just like him but his tail is carried higher.

I was just gonna ask about the halo. Didn't you say someone said not to get into that project? The one on the right has a nice comb and wattle. What his hangup? Othe than the pic makes his eye look funny. Really they are all studs. You're gonna have to get nitpicky if you can't let them hangout.

Edit to add: with stock like that I'd be scrutinizing my hens at this point. Handsome boys
You are right. I was walking around this evening thinking just that. I don't need all these hens and my life would be a lot simpler if I just kept the best. I give hundreds of eggs away. Not to mention the cost of feed.

Everyone was on high alert. I am glad it happened, tails were up. I couldn't get good pics, all were agitated with hens, pullets and Antonio. They have a lot of good qualities, I think I may just keep the one on the left in the second picture. Love the very orange eye of the cockerel on the right in the same picture. First picture, his tail is high but he is nice. Last pic another nice cockerel. These are the four.

They do look very good! My line B (FRF) male isnt a fraction as good. I would love to take one of your culls off your hands if you can ship him. I really like this guy..

I think he would pair nicely to my Redbanks pullet. :D

He is so pretty! LOL I love a rectangular body. I don't want to see a triangle. They all are pretty nice. He has the best tail, his comb is not as big as the others, he has less color on his chest, he is built like a tank. I like his short legs, some of the others are very high up on leg. What worries me, the only thing that worries me, is his short back.
Comb and wattles are not too big.
Eye color is correct
Beak horn colored correct.
Slight very slight halo on his hackle but the copper is nice.
head is carried correct with a curve to the top of the head with good length
Chest is bowed like the bow of a ship
Body is correct type with rectangular shape. (See kfelton0002's drawing post)
His body is not a triangle when viewed from the side.
His back is short - would like to see more length
He has good width between his legs and his legs are straight
Body coloring is correct and appropriate for this age
Just a sprinkling of color on his chest
Tail is not large and carried at 45%
Legs are the correct color and not too long- grey with pink showing thru
Good feathering on the legs
That is how I see him.

^^^ this is an excellent post yo remind me what to look at when mine grow up and I pick my pairings. I hope I can find it in or have remembered even half of the things you look at in what. A year?

Also: chester looked a bit light in mass at 7 -8 months but he packed on some weight as soon as I gave away the other roo and bully hens. I should weigh him again.

Put the SOP in front of you and go from top to bottom against the SOP.
