thank you red bank . it is nice to share what we have . that what make it great peoples.

we have a same hobby so why not help each other and enjoy each other company .

I m working with a lot breeders ,sending them eggs and showing them how to breed .so we all can have a good marans .NOT just only me.

plus is good for the line ,because we can hatch a lot progeny and we ll be able to follow they growth in different places .with different animal practice.

ChooksMan Thank You for all the information on breeding. I have been taking notes and can't wait to try my hand at some Marans breeding. I have learned a lot of information on this thread. I love the way it is presented. Everyone talks to each other not at each other. We are all treated as equals whether we are learning or have been doing it for several years. It puts us all at ease so we can ask questions without feeling stupid. Can't wait till sprng when I can get some day old or eggs to add to my flock and really start.

Chooks Man, Look how much Antonio has changed in one month!

Perfection nothing else to say.

got back his hackle feathers and chunked out.

put him on the scale for me please . I think he will be around 3.4Kg .

Some thing i m not happy about is his wings feathers around the triangle . Both photos I see one feather sticking out not allowing the triangle to form .

Catch him and open his wing ,see why is not smooth. He should have wings well tucked in close to the body .

Him and Gabby are going to be your strong hold ( Royal Blood Line ) But they have to be tested first to see if they can throw pretty chicks like them . if yes than RedBank you struck GOLD.

there is a reason I unsubscribed from many other threads and stuck with this one and the naked neck. there is no arguing, no misunderstanding, nice people and an opportunity to learn.

I know I will have to get rid of my other breeds but I am not mentally prepared for that. I love my roos and cannot give them for someone's dinner.

on the contrary I need to learn to kill chickens. I am overrun with them and I need space for marans. I still have some room to make 2 new coops but that is the last piece of my property available. I can dream about 10 m2 per chicken, 1,5 - 2 m2 is my maximum. although it is either too hot or too windy here so they usually hide somewhere and don't use all the space. I have noticed that they like to make groups and spend all day long with the chosen company.

chooks are jungle fowl and flock animal . they like to hung together and do stuff together . they are true bodies .

if you don t have too much space for them then give them they vigies. you are already doing that .so it is cool .

no body is telling you to get ready of your other breeds , they can be used for broodiness and raising chicks ,better than the incubator any way.

just breed marans because they are gorgeous .

So is it possible to bred a sprig out if necessary?

it is possible to add horn to the chooks if we want too ,hahahaaaaaaaaaa.

every thing could be bred in and out ,only the difference is the amount of culling and a time needed to breed a trait in or out .

each genetic trait has it own advantage and disadvantage . some are easy to breed other are harder and take longer to fix, But every thing is fixable , that is genetic fact ,no Dogma stuff. or belief .

pure science ,fact . method . calculation . planing .projecting all this sort of stuff NO SPECULATIVE .

I will keep my laying flock with different breeds. but I have roos, 1 mutt, 1 brahma mix, 2 rumpless araucanas, 1 buff orpington and 2 bcm. I am going to give the mutt to the feed store as they want to breed him with their red sex link. my brahma mix had canker and his respiratory system has been damaged, so he stays with my laying flock as long as he lives. I have an araucana pen, this is ok at the moment. but my orpington is extra and he is such s sweathart that I don't know what to do with him. I am thinking to make a batchelor pen and maybe to resolve the problem. I wish I had more space.

so how hard is it really? To be able to get rid of sprigs? Or use the roo anyway and just keep culling for sprigs when it appears?

I'm messing with a landrace breed (Swedish flower hen breed) but am lurking here to learn.
