International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

after 3 inbred generation I managed to reduce the size and the shape of the comb and maintaining the gorgeous copper color and type.

the f3 Wolf his s all what i want from this line ( Walker - W line-). 3 years of selective breeding from one Coq.

this are pure copper bred back ward 3 time and nothing has been added to them .they have a light slate and pinkish feet. for the rooster. slate to dark with pinkish bottom to the girls.

there no wheaten in here just selective breeding. haven t see anything rather than BCM chicks hatching from this line.

lighter shank does not automatically mean they have Wheaten on them .IS NOT TRUE.

what is the perfect size and shape of comb? if you have any pics please post them.

my RIP marans hen was a good layer. I read somewhere that she will pass it to her sons and they to their daughters. is that true? she laid 4-5 eggs per week.

I woke up this morning to all your posts! I have a lot to study here. Love the hens, I see the flat black color, pink on shanks, lightly feathered and the consistency. Some of my chicks were slow to feather, the feathers they did have were a beautiful flat black. Is that something to look for in the chicks or is that something else? Will that hold true when they are older?

for the perfect comb I ll post some soon.

there is a low for every thing. for genetic there is a low of inheritance .50% mam 50% dad.

You saying if the hen is great layer can she pass down that trait to her son ,yeah for sure BUT he will inherit the other half from his father too.

than if this cockerel ( with half of the gene of the good laying hen) is mated to a bad laying hen ,than the progeny is going to be bad layer.

SO for the theory to work WE have to BACK CROSS to the father or the mother to reinforce the trait we went to move forward.

good layer hen mated back to her son ( ho carry half of her gene) will give progeny with 75% of her gene. they are likely to be as good layer like her.

Interesting. But then you'd have to look at dads mom too. In humans around 80% of men's hair end up looking like his mothers father. What if it is a genetic situation like that. Or where several genes make up the outcome. If its like a sequencing of genes, saying that all mitochondrial DNA is identical to your mothers, then it would have to be inheritance of the females bloodline. But if her fathers mother was a bad layer then there would be chance that it would cause his offspring to take after her. I'm sorry I'm going on. I'm trying to start up a program of breeding and went to school for family genetics. And there are some inherited things that are not determined by parents. But grandparents. So how will you know?

there is a difference between a slow feathering and a short hatch down.

slow feather and fast feathering are are genes almost most of the breed have them .

the big hatchery use this method to sex they day old chick. ( fast fathering cockerel X to a slow feathering hen = will give all the pullets fast feathering and all the cockerels slow feathering.) easy to sex at hatch .

short hatch down is more of the family genetic make up .related to a Brown red ( Black copper Marans ).

the sheen is some thing come from the breeders stocks. some line have t ,others don t.

with selective breeding we can breed a flat black ( minimum sheen possible ) generation after generation .

The Sheen is related to some sort of Melanin less of t we have is better a same as the shanks color more dark mean more Melanin. Ears tuft dark mean more Melanin.

when we add all this sort of Melanin we ll end up with imbalanced bird mostly Black .

Especially if we want to keep the copper on the red side we have to watch all this sort of a little thing .they add up.

my friend the Genetic is not just a few world , actually is a building block of the nature.

I mentioned before in early subject ,its is better to mate the hen to her grand son and the father to his grand daughter .

We have to breed for a long period and establish lines ,so can tell what is the make up of our chooks .

there is many way to go around t.

to start we have to cross back to the father or the mother and creating a cockerels line /pullets line.

if we do that ,than slowly we reinforce the trait we looking for.

We have to tray and Do to get there. we can not sit and speculate.we don t go no where.
