Glad you mentioned that it is not a great idea to breed to the sire but rather the grand sire.

I agree that we must be methodical when we start constricting the gene pool in the F2 and F3 progeny.

a true F2 progeny ( F1 X f1 from a same pairing ) is the great genetic expression of the parent stock .wide variation is expected if the parent stock where from different origin

must be done to uncover the true genetic make up of the breeders.

if we cross strait back to the sire we are reinforcing not only the quality but the Fault too.

crossing back to the grand sire will give us a time to clear the fault in the F1 and F2 progeny before crossing back and reinforcing just a quality ( because by now it is a dominant trait after 2 generation )

btw, the eggs are still in france. I hope they arrive safe and sound and on time. I already see low hatch rate if any (maybe they arrive next week).

Monique line is as pure and well established for over 30 years.doesn t need to go through this method

different method to work with . I ll explain it to you went the time is alright.

I underline everything that might help you determine what they are explaining. I notice that mine didn't say "a Marans cock of the Wheaton variety or even of the Brown-Red variety. Instead mine came up as "a Marans cock of the Wheaton variety or the Golden-Salmon variety".
I believe they are interchanging the name "golden salmon" with "black red" but I could be wrong here.

there is a point look to me like a start of sprig or infection . on the top of his eyes strait . middle bottom part of the comb ( between the 2 and the 3 dent looking toward the eye )

Chooks Man,

I do see what you are talking about on the pic. I caught Otis this morning to examine his comb and found no sprigs or signs of infection. His comb felt smooth when I touched it. Attached is another picture of his head from a slightly different angle for you to see. I guess he could have had some coop debris on his head when I took the pic or something on my phone camera lens.

Good Morning Everyone, I got my second egg and it looks exactly like the first. Nice and shiny, not real dark. CM, did you see my post about quantity versus color. What color would you expect on a hen laying nearly everyday?

a trouble RedBank I do not talk chooks all the time BUT I do talk genetic for most of day ,

specially with all the work i do with all sort of breeders .from cattle ,dairy ,sheep and the plant . I have to explain the thing all the time 100 time over and over.

my friend the chooks breeders they want me to work with they cream legbar chooks ( very expensive ) because they are stuck .

I like only the marans and the necked neck chooks ( I do no have now but I will soon )
