International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you everyone.  Just heard we are right in the middle of the path.  Winds will be around 65MPH near Midnight.  The biggest fear for me are the trees, trees will be uprooted, limbs will break, we will lose power.  I am surrounded by very old trees.  Hurricane Hermine.  I have been told I am probably not going anywhere for a couple of days.  The trees will block my road.  I live on a beautiful country road.  We are the last people to have power and access restored because they start in the most populated areas.  Everything is going to be fine.  I don't mean to paint a dire picture.

Praying for you. Be sure to let us know that you're ok once everything is over and back in order.

I know Chooks man and Redbanks are experiencing some bad weather but I got a few pics of two of my youngsters from Feels Right Farm. When yall weather out the storm you can tell me how they are looking. I am pleased with them so far. These two are the friendliest and meet me at the coop door when I go to visit. Lol. My pullet from this group has a tiny bit of copper leakage on her back and shoulders, barely able to even see it in pics and you cant tell unless you look close at her in person. Not a big deal. She is lovely otherwise I think and such a sweet girl.

Here is one of my 3 cockerels in this group. He is the biggest in the bunch and is already getting some copper in his back. The others are getting lots copper already also.

The little pullet is lovely. I had some mossy feathers and now I have very black pullets. It disappeared. Gabby was one of those friendly pullets. Truthfully they were all so sweet. I never had such friendly loving chicks. They followed me everywhere and wanted to be in my lap. They are still sweet but are not interested in being in my lap anymore. I have been told by the local weather officials we will have 70 MPH winds beginning at 2200 for a duration of 8-12 hours. It is ever changing but never for the better

Oh goodness! Hope you and your family, and the chickens ride out the storm without any problems or damage. Take care and stay safe!

Would you say this cockerel is a 5 on a 10 scale or better?

If you could post some better pics we could tell u more. From the front, rear, and the side as the cockerel is standing. From my novice expertise of Marans, best I can tell u from these pics is his leg and eye color is appropriate, looks to have adequate leg feathering best I can see. His comb looks good so far, no side sprig or thumb print on comb. I cant tell much about his type without better pics. How old is he, around 4 months or so?

Chooks man and Redbanks will chime in when they can. :)

Thank you so much. So far so good.

What state are you in? I know you said you used to live in Redbanks, Ms.

I assume you're now in Florida since that is where hurricane hermine is supposed to hit the hardest.

Hope you're not right on the gulf where is will touch down, finger crossed

that everything will be alright.

If the weather is starting to look more drastic the closer it gets I would ask a friend/family member if you can move your chickens to their garage, basement or even a barn/shed would be good.

Quote: Thanks BB. I am just north of where it came in, Tallahassee area. So far things haven't been too bad. It is raining and windy. I walked out to check on them. They are all on the roost and dry. My tarp idea seems to be working. Thank you..... keep those fingers crossed.
