International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hey Chooks man and Red Banks  I know this is a Marans thread but I have a question on breeding.  I have Dominique Rooster in with my Easter Eggers their kids are now just laying.  They are in a seperate coop with all brown layer so I know the eggs are theirs.   They are laying olive colored egg so would they be considered Olive eggers.  EE are laying green and blue tint eggs.

Check out this thread, lots of good information about breeding Olive Eggers:

I will have to print this!

I can use Gabby, Antonio and the Monique, the Silver Hackled Cuckoo. You know the mere mention of Birchen gets my attention. Is this how you got all your beautiful Birchens? How do I make a Hercules?

RedBank HERCULUS is a secret formula ,hahaha .

yeah I got him from crossing . very complex crossing .

we can make him by crossing the Birchen ( wen you recreate them first ) to a Black tail buff or a Wheaten hen with too much flame on her hackle . caused by the Colombian restrictor gene Co .

if you do what I m telling to do you will have not only the 4 variety the bonus they will all look a like and lay a same dark eggs . because they come from a same Parent stock.

that what I m doing with mine in 5 years time all my chooks should have a same body type regardless witch variety . Only the difference will be they body color that all . the rest all a same .

by that time they will be recognized as my chooks from my line .my oun work NOT somebody else work .

Pullet #1 when she was around 22 weeks old and not nearly as filled out as she is now.

( she is tilting her butt down in this photo so she can balance on the pole)

Her now that she is laying and is 27 weeks old.

I will have to get pictures of the other sister tomorrow, she was in the nest box when I was taking pictures this morning.

This is the girl you liked, Chooks man. Every chick in the hatch has a poor comb from the start, all over the place with bends.

yeah maybe she doesn t have a body color and she have a bad comb BUT she is a great body type bung on the money .
I knew she will have a long wide back . nice tail a little bigger .great angle.

you need to work on the comb and body color .
body type you have nice one .

what color are her eggs ? please .

eggs color is very important .

Quote: A mixed chicken not matter what the mix carrying the blue egg gene would be either an olive egger or an easter egger. If you have a Marans Rooster to breed them with you would get an even darker olive egg.

Check out Morbius 18. His posts contain info on OE and EE. This is another example of breeders creating what they want. There was no such thing as Ameraucanas at one time.

Quote: I think Chooks man's post is the best example of what he has been trying to tell us. BCM were created many many years ago by crossing several breeds, they decided they liked what they ended up with and then bred true. Most importantly hanging on to the egg color (still a top priority). We worry about everything, is this right, is that right. We have the power to fix everything. We have the power to have exactly what we want without constantly searching for the perfect start up birds. We probably already own our start up birds we just don't recognize them. In another post Chooks man said he sold all his best cockerels/roosters, he kept one he could work with but isn't perfect..... I understand him using all caps at me, he feels he is repeating himself but it is hard for us because we have not been breeders (some of us), we have been buyers. There is a member, Morbius18 that is working with GCM, he is fearless and that's what we have to be. We have to believe in ourselves and then take the birds with us to our goal.

I would like to get avocado coloured eggs but I don't understand what to breed to F2.
