Don't let that comb keep you from using him.  Chooks man is going to yell at us.  The comb comes from the hen.

The comb isnt the only thing. I like cockerel #1 best because he feels more like a dual purpose bird.. big and meaty. Cockerel 2 is leaner. I may still use him and definitely dont plan on parting with him any time soon. May use him in the future or mate him to one of cockerel #1's daughters later on. Im going to wait and see how everyone looks once they mature out before I start thinking up my breeding plans for spring. :)

I only have one FRF pullet so whichever is my best FRF cockerel will go with her once they mature and I can tell more about them. The other cockerel will be a spare for later use when I have more hens.

This is my first small group of BCMs, and I'd love some feedback on these two. I originally got BCMs just for the dark eggs, but the more I find out about breeding to standard, the more fascinated I become! Are either of these two worth breeding?

This is Pinky Pie. He's 5 months old and seems to be getting more color every day. I know his comb isn't ideal...any thoughts on how to fix it?

And this is Tangerine. She's also 5 mos.

Thanks!

I like them very much. The pullet is so pretty. In one picture it looks like she has too much cushion in front of her tail but in the other it doesn't. Lovely head. Good angle on her tail.

The cockerel is so nice. Very balanced.

Nice copper
Nice Mahogany shoulder

I came back for a second look. These are really nice birds. I love the cockerel.

the dark silver cuckoo very hard to catch on camera always moving .

he is 6.5 month old .big frame boy .really deep chest and a long flat back . I like him a lot not as much as a BLUE HEAVEN

this dark silver cuckoo going to give a great result with my Birchen ladies , he is going to help me clear the golden hues and a yellow shoulder from my birchen cockerels plus he is going to add the long flat back to then as well especially OSLO and COPENHAGEN both are square type with too much fluff on them .

I can t take take a good photos of him .guess I have to teach him how to pose .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

He looks fine even if he is camera shy.

Okay so I just got back in from visiting my black coppers. After getting my hands on them and taking individual pictures, I am liking my FRF cockerels more. Two of them anyway. The high tailed, bad combed, strange back feathered cockerel is still a cull at this point so no pictures of him.

I took the best pics I could.. cockerel #2 kept trying to get away. How do you like them posing on our feed barrel? :D

Cockerel #1 (FRF)
3 months old
Very gentle, easy to handle.
Good eye color
I am liking his comb so far.
After getting my hands on him, his tail is coming in slowly but surely (you just cant tell from looking at him).
He is coloring up nice on his back already and his hackle coloring seems appropriate.
He is smaller than cockerel #2 but is more plump and meaty.
I think he has great type
Better leg feathering than cockerel #2
This one is my favorite so far.

Cockerel #2 (FRF):
Also 3 months old
He is bigger than cockerel #1, but seems leaner in build.
Sometimes his tail looks like it is ever so slightly wry-tailed.
His leg feathering isnt the best but I can work with what he has. Some middle toe feathering.
His tail isn't as open in the back as you all like. Am I right?

And I just happened to catch one of my pullets from my Louisiana group. Those girls are quick and a little more hesitant to come near me than the cockerels. This one is probably my favorite. She has the most color in her hackle of all the pullets in that group. She is 4 months old.

Sorry.. I didn't meat to cut her head off. I'm a nurse not a photographer.. better keep my day job (or night job rather). lol

Nice open tail.. right? I'm learning!

now we are talking .
I ll start with a pullet and say BRAVO to the Breeder.
great type .
nice pure black
great marans head not pointed and long .
stunning hackle well colored . rich red copper
nice long flat back .
great tail well positioned
nice rear wide and forming nice pyramid shape with a tail .
nice shanks well colored and feathered .nice and strait parallel to each other .

I can keep going .she have more to reveal , keep your eyes on her and nice her please .

Pinky Pie is a gorgeous cockerel. Looks to be very well bred. Good tail angle, nice straight back. Beautiful copper coloring with no halo. His wing points down slightly where it should point back toward the tail. The wing should be held parallel to the back from my understanding. Someone can correct me on that if Im wrong. The blade of his comb doesnt touch the nape of his neck so thats good, no side sprigs. Lovely cockerel! Your pullet is gorgeous as well, all except that she has a cushion on her back where it should be straight until it meets the tail. Im sure this pair will make you some nice chicks for you to cull through and select your keepers. Chooksman and Redbanks can fill in where I lacked in my assessment. ;) Chookman can help u on the comb. He is our professor.
