International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

My hens first two eggs 44 grams, only laying every two, three days. Chooks man her full brother is, Squeek, The cockerel with the caranation comb. If the hen produces or controls comb genes, then I should just use her for nice eggs, right?? I have baby chics coming on Thrus.-Fri. will give me many choices come spring.

Congrats on your egg and your new chicks. Can't wait to see pictures.

it seems that luna will be a good layer like her mom was. she already laid 6 eggs, I guess #5 colour. only the first one was #4 and 34 grams, the other ones are around 42-43 gr. I am afraid she will not lay darker eggs as she lays almost every day - she had only 1 day off.

Wow she is going for it .sign of a great layer .
with that many eggs by week is she manages to lay number 5 than she is really great .

she had to paint 6 eggs in one week ,a lot of work and ink too .

I am laughing! I know...... I have been so busy. I culled Bello. I know there is going to be an outcry. I got rid of 4 roosters and kept one I should not have. Antonio and Claude were not top dog when Bello was around and now they are having squabbles about who is top rooster. Nothing major.... I will soon lock up the roosters in a bachelor pen. They free range about an hour every day.
I am going to separate the Ameraucanas into one pen. The laying flock into another. I am getting ready to get serious. Don't we get serious in the Spring?

You are always welcome to visit Florida! I don't live in tourist country though. I live in Plantation country. Some call it the Redneck Riviera.

she did great . nice egg for the pullets.

don t forget to count the first 20/30 eggs to see the average weight .over all color .and a consistency of her production .+

i m well happy for you ,you waited long to get this egg.

She's been laying for approx. 2 months now, she lays around 3 eggs a week.
I have gotten 24 eggs so far, I am waiting to hit the 30 egg mark to finish up.
As of now her eggs average out as a 4.

This egg (as well as all her past eggs) had speckles on them, maybe I am nuts but I hope that means she will eventually lay even colored eggs that are darker.
In your experience is that pretty typical or do girls that lay speckled eggs continue to lay a speckled egg?

Oxine would be great! It is a bit pricey though, I used Tylan when I had a few with respiratory issues.

Respiratory stuff tends to make me nervous but Tylan cleared up whatever issues mine were having earlier this year, mine sometimes get sick when we are having a lot of super damp weather.
Usually they are caused by extra fungi/bacteria growing on the ground.

My guys squabble when I remove one of the guys as well.
Sounds like you're a lady with a plan... all this planning makes me wonder.
Are you about to start hatching out a few mini Antonio and Claudes?
