International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@bluemaransman
Depending on what you are looking for you can get chicks from CowboyCountryPoultry (they have a FB page) and they bought all of Fitz Farms BCM stock. I read about it on a previous post on this thread & checked them out. They are based out of Stillwater, OK & ship their chicks with a 6 order min. They are $20/chick & they have been bred for egg color. Beautiful dark eggs

Thank you very much pioneerchick

Here is the best chick from Cooper yet. She (guessing) was one of a few late hatchers from eggs I had given up on in the incubator last night. Good thing I didn't throw them out. lol My Marans grand total ended up being 4 black coppers from Cooper and 3 blue coppers from Mud on this hatch. Not too bad. :)

This little chick has the least middle toe feathering so far of the rest of Cooper's chicks, and barely any white on the face. I am tagging this one as a keeper!

*sorry my camera flash was so bright, the chick is much blacker in person*

beautiful, I hope she is a girl.

Here are some side by side pics of Mud's darker blue copper chick (yellow band) and Cooper's black copper chick (red band).

Cooper is consistently throwing chicks with varying degrees of middle toe feathering and white on the face.

Mud's chicks look very good so far with no middle toe feathering and little to no white on their faces.

Cooper's chick left (black), Mud's chick right (blue)

I like Mud chick.
they are the one normally I double tag.

gorgeous eyes .

you see Cooper isn t that bad .
genetic favor the number . greater is a hatch number ,better are the chances to find what are you looking for .

So...HELP!

I need to get rid of at least one cockerel, possibly two. I just don't have the space (or the hens for them), and they're starting to beat each other up. I *think* I know who I want to keep, but I'd really love some more opinions!

Here are my boys:

Blade
He's a horse. Huge. Comb seems too big to me, and his tail is very upright (though all of three have upright tails).

Copper
He's the smallest, but seems so elegant and well-put-together to me. Lives up to his name with tons of copper. Tail is too big and his legs aren't feathered, though all the girls I have now are heavily feathered.

ShyGuy:
Seems to fall in middle of Blade and Copper. A little smaller than Blade, doesn't look to me like his overall conformation is as nice as the other two, though it might be a problem with getting a good picture because he's the most skittish.

Pinky Pie's still a keeper...right?

you all ready made your mind witch one you are keeping .
hard for us to tell you when the mind is set .

any way;
the Best of the 4 OR the more complete of the 4 is Copper .
great type
great body pattern
great rich red copper
Great comb
great shank color ( greyish /pink )
great eyes

what he need is very easy to find .
a hen/hens with well feathered shanks and a small pointed tail .

Good luck

Thank you! I have at least 3 dozen more of Cooper's eggs in the incubator so I was thinking I will have enough from him to cull through. I am currently cleaning out my LA pullets so I can move Mud back and forth between coops every other day or so. He will have 3 black coppers in the LA pen to cover and 1 black copper (FRF), and 3 splash pullets to cover in the other coop. I have been moving all of my layers to their own separate coop.
