International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

another question: do they try to mate each other? I had that issue with the young cockerel who is a happy lover now. I gave him to a person who likes to experiment with the strange/unusal chickens and the cockerel was an araucana mix.

if you leave the young cockerels by them selves ,they ll try to dominate and mount each other . it is a reason why I pen a adult rooster or 2 with them to keep the order .

not all the rooster are good for this job .
I have few roosters witch I do not trust with a cockerels . Viking .Elvis and djabel are very bad .

Samir and Sofie are from a old line Dominant white gene over a Splash and blue copper marans . so both are almost white chooks .
this line been in isolation for 18 years the day I got them 2 years ago . but I think a lot fence jumping has happen in those long years .few thing been added to them . have to breed them out .

the parasitic white is going to take a white to breed out .but it possible ,just be passion and take record plus photos of your hatching chicks .
and the copper you only need one bird with a nice rich copper so you can breed from him or her .

I am trying for a rooster with good color but no white. The only rooster I have that is showing enough color has white tail feathers. So I am working with what I have. I think the form is not bad. I am a long ways from where I want to be but I love them anyways. I love this breed! Blue Coppers are my favorite! So just wondering..... What did your rooster say? lol I was out talking to my favorite hen earlier but she never says much! lol

a question about parasitic white:

the last chick that hatched (I had to assist) had almost yellow head and a lot of yellow feathers around the chest and shoulders. it started to hatch around 7pm, I broke some shell around 11 pm as it managed just to make a tiny hole. at around 1 am I broke more shell, making a circle and leaving the membrane. I left it alone for the night. at about 6:30 I found a yellowish tiny chick. by some time in the afternoon the chick was mostly black with some yellow down. I now am not sure which one was it, they all are little ravens. I suppose those yellow feathers shouldn't be parasitic white, right?

yes I m well pleased with them .
great body type
nice long back
great tail ( shape and angle) most of them
gorgeous body marking and vibrant color
lovely colored eyes
most of them are with feathered shank.

plus they are well mannered

you are alright ,the birchen have a clean pure Silver well pleased ,they are the F4 ( took me 4 generation of breeding and selecting to achieve it .well marked and pure silver on them

I keep telling you guys ,we don t need a faultless stock to start breeding to achieve the Standard . just time ,multiplying and selecting as we go .

I'm a believer Chooks Man! I tagged all of my chicks so I can track by sire, dam and proper hatch down color. So far these chicks are showing improvement over their parent stock - better type, mass, leg length (good medium size) and combs. For the first time I'm getting pullets with copper hackles - some better than others but the copper is there. I have also noticed that the chicks with the proper hatch down color have no white feathers (so far at least). I still have a ways to go in my breeding program but it's rewarding to see the improvement and gives me confidence for the future.

Take Care,
Keith

parasitic white is not sex linked .
so if your Rooster has a white feathers ,than try to mate him to a hen/hens without it .balance it out .

I talked to my cockerel ,he said by the time he ll be granted the visa he ll be to old to travel . ha haha...................

glad to hear that. it is encouraging when we hear that the chicks are better than their parents.
