International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I need to see photos please .

chooks man

I didn't take a photo when the chick was yellowish. it was too weak and I left it under the broody.

I have been busy these days so I didn't take any photos. right now I am having my coffee and getting ready to go to athens so I don't think I will have time to do it today. but I promise to take them soon.

@Chooks man I got a solid black naked neck who unfortunately arrived with the tail (parson's nose) eaten to the bone. I read somewhere that their wounds can heal even in such cases. I have noticed that new feathers that are growing are not solid black but they have some white. do all the sick birds get white feathers or it is a case with the black ones only?

Does the International Black Copper Marans egg taste better than the hatchery Black Copper Marans? Vice-versa? What about egg laying frequency? Hardiness?

Thanks

the hatchery eggs normally doesn t test good ,because the breeders are not free ranging .

for the eggs to test good the flock has to free range all the time ,plus a lot of grass too.

International or local has nothing to do with a test .

Where are you guys getting these birds in the US? I've asked a few questions but I've been ignored.
It depends on what you are wanting. Are you just looking for egg color or are you wanting to breed to improve the breed? From what I have found there are no perfect lines. They all have flaws that need worked on. There are a few good breeders though.

Thanks for your replies.

I don't see why those two can't be compatible? Egg color is one (great, IMO) attribute to this breed. So I don't see why getting dark colored eggs and taking that into account for breeding (among other things) is a bad thing.

I don't want to show birds but I like having great looking birds. I want to improve the breed with the help of chooks and others.

Greenfire has chicks for $60. That's way more than what I'm willing to pay. I was hoping to get second hand green fire birds, or from someone with good lines that doesn't charge that much.

I don't mean any disrespect by my last comment.

you are absolutely right about having good birds who lay dark eggs.

if you write where you live and ask if there are breeders near you someone will answer you. post your question from time to time as people are not all the time on byc. don't get discouraged if you don't get the answer, ask again. I guess this time of the year people are too busy and don't follow all the posts.

good luck.
