International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

if you are giving them no gmo chicks starter that will enough .don t over load them with egg yolk .20% protein is enough for them .

1 egg yolk for 5 chicks and a broody and 2 egg yolks for 11 chicks and a broody. I think it is not too much. the guy at the feed store told me it is written there is 21% protein but there is 18-19% only. at least he was honest.

I give them dandelion leaves as well. I am worried they might get worms as it was rainy for a while and the broody was scratching and fed them a lot of earthworms. the other broody with 5 girls is in a sofa bed brooder so they are safe at the moment.

that is ok not too much .
if they are free ranging with they mama hen ,you need to give them some Apple Cider vinegar 10 ml to a little of water for one week .ones a month . that will help with bug eating .

thanks. I did give them some acv in water but not enough. I am going to give it to them now. one little araucana chick has tears in the eye again. I put some ointment and I hope she will get well. when jupiter died from mycoplasma or whatever I treated all of my chickens whith tylan. I lost a naked neck hen yesterday, not sure if she was sick. she was big and fat and didn't cope with heat well. I lost her mother last year due to heat.

Today is the day for me to get attacked by roosters! I went into one pen and was thumped by my favorite BLCM rooster. No big deal. Then went into a different pen and the BLCM rooster in there attacked.... Killer rooster!!! I think he is going in the pot very soon!!!

before you decide to kill roosters make sure that you are never standing in their way to the hens. if their hormones are kicking and you are between them and hens they will grab your leg instead of hen's head, lol. try this first, it would be pity to kill a good roo only because he is young and horny. if they attack you all the time they will make a good soup.

He is not in with any hens at all. I do not know what is going on with him. I will give him a chance but if he attacks everytime I go to feed. He will have to go! He was all spurs and I am black and blue!

I would put him with hens first. if he is in age to mate it is not natural that he is without hens. we should respect nature. of course I am not experienced in keeping chickens but I do know that anything against nature is bad. look at our planet what happened.

He was in a pen with another rooster from the same hatch and a bunch of hens for over a year. Then they started fighting so I had to move him. I have been looking for him a good home for at least the last couple months that wouldn't eat him but havn't found one. Now that he is attacking. No one is going to want a mean rooster. Anyone that lives close that will give him a good home. He is all yours.
