Hello, and thanks for the intro. Red Banks!
I have a new young small French black copper maran group three pullets and a cockerel from a guy who has spent years breeding two lines for egg colour and size here in England. He got his original hatching eggs in France .Pullets from one line cockerel form the other.they are still moulting into their final plumage, late hatched due to the avian flu outbreak we had overseer, so might lay late this year . These are the guys so far. Your views are welcome.

Thank you chooks man. I was looking at the French Maran's Club website and they mentioned a Golden Blue variety, and then a Silver Blue variety that they said was not approved yet. Since I am new to learning about all the different genetics I thought that maybe there were two different blue types? Thank you for explaining. The woman that I am buying Blue Boy from said that his father is a black copper marans, and his mother is a splash marans hen.

it is a good sign he is from a cross between a BCM and a Splash copper marans .he should have nice blue . not washed up blue .let wait and see .

Freisian, I think your pullets and cockerel are extremely alluring. Their color is so rich and beautiful. I think they have a beautiful type. They have such beautiful hackle color.. The pullets chest are nice and wide, and a nice long back. Beautiful red vibrant combs. Cockerel looks to have a nice long back. Cockerel does need a little spotting on the chest. Hackles appear to have a nice slate color. I still have much to learn. How lovely to have real marans from France!!! I think you have some wonderful birds to work with.

for me there is always time when it come to chooks.
it is the only thing I really like doing. working with the chooks .

I will post pictures when I get him. Breeder sent me a picture, but it isn't a good photograph. She said he was always a wonderful tempered cockerel, one of her favorites until a few weeks ago. She said a raccoon got into the coop and killed all her hens and chicks. Blue Boy and one hen were the only survivors. He was hurt, but is healing. She said ever since the attack, he has been more aggressive. He won't let her around other chicks or hens in the yard, and he jumps at her. She said he hasn't flogged, but jumps toward her. She just doesn't want him anymore. Maybe I am making a mistake by buying him. I wondered if he is just being over protective since the traumatic experience; and will calm down after awhile if I am kind to him. We will see.
