International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks. For now I will just keep the first one and see what I get with my young ones that are growing out. Then maybe keep 1 from that group or 2 and get rid of this first one.
Well. That was a shock!
I put the first Rooster in with the pullers last night. I went out late this morning and he was dead. Wonder if he had a heart attack from being sooo excited with all the ladies??

sorry for your loss. did he have any problem in the past? watch your pullets now for any symptoms. I hope they are fine.

Freisian, I think your pullets and cockerel are extremely alluring. Their color is so rich and beautiful. I think they have a beautiful type. They have such beautiful hackle color.. The pullets chest are nice and wide, and a nice long back. Beautiful red vibrant combs. Cockerel looks to have a nice long back. Cockerel does need a little spotting on the chest. Hackles appear to have a nice slate color. I still have much to learn. How lovely to have real marans from France!!! I think you have some wonderful birds to work with.
Thank you so much!

Top pic is my oldest with one of my birchen Marans pullets, plus the blue silver/blue birchen(has anyone officially decided if it's blue silver or blue birchen? Because I'm running my birchen with the blue birchen and I'm going for a light lacing on the breast as per birchen, so.... Yeah...)
The bottom pic has our blue birchen Cockerel Handsome on the left and our cream legbar Cockerel Odysseus on the right. Handsome won reserve champion feather legged male, Odysseus won grand champion male crested bird at our state fair. My oldest is 8 so it's the first time she's ever shown birds, and there are no in state shows here for me. It was very exciting! Handsome is looking better and better, he even has silver ear Tufts. My birds need a color boost. My biggest concern with Handsome is his tail angle. It's rather high.

Does your FRF line have high/large tails? Antonio's tail has calmed down with the molt but some of my hens have very upright tails. They are thin and closed but too high, a couple are at 90 degrees.

Redbanks!! How I have missed you!! Hope you are doing well!!

But yes they have very high tails. It doesnt look like I will have many (if any) keepers out of my FRF cockerels I raised. Most have pretty high upright tails and a lot of copper leakage and shafting on the chest. They are still young so I will continue to let them grow. This is probably the "best" one but his tail will only get higher I expect. And yes he is on my kitchen table in most of the pics!
