International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Antonio's son, I think he is 10 weeks. He will not let me take a picture, I am spoiled by Antonio, he thinks he is a model.

This cockerel already has some copper saddle feathers coming in.

@Chooks man, remember we talked about how big the combs were on Antonio and his hatch mates, one theory was the hot days of summer in the South. Maybe this one will have a smaller comb as we are moving into fall. The days aren't real cool but they aren't a 100 degrees.

gorgeous couple .
Bravo for the shot .

does Antonio always hold his tail that high or just when he is excited ?
I don t recall him having a high tail .

chooks man
It is high on alert but most of the time it is okay. High tails are a problem for me. The cockerels tail is a big improvement. Most of my birds are still molting. Some have no tails! HaHaHa

@Chooks man
When I first started asking for your help it was with the cockerel in the front of these pictures on the BCM thread. I posted a pic of him at about three months (I have been searching everywhere for it). You liked him a lot but I was concerned he didn't have a tail. You explained slow feathering. He was my favorite cockerel, beautiful, but when he did get a tail it was wry. I got rid of him before you taught us about fixing things. My new cockerel looks so much like him only he is fast feathering.

@ Chooks man I found the pictures. Gabby and Claude are from this group. Antonio was from the second hatch group.

Here at 11 weeks, my favorite cockerel that ended up with a wry tail, slow feathered. Antonio's son looks like this cockerel to me.

Hi Marins folks. I hope I am putting this post in the right place. I have two beautiful black copper Marans hens that are laying very nice dark eggs. I'm looking for a mature great breeding quality black copper Marans rooster in the Houston area. Please let me know if anyone has one available. Thanks!

He is looking very nice indeed! :love

I have never really paid attention to comb development in warm vs cool weather. That is interesting. It makes sense because a bird could develop a larger comb in an attempt to lose heat in hot weather, to cool his body.

Look up April Howington on Facebook. She has Bev Davis's line of birds and she shows eggs and birds. Her egg color is very nice. She is in Texas, but I'm not sure what area. You can join the Marans Central group on Facebook also, it is a buy, sale, auction page. There are a lot of good Marans breeders in Texas. :)
