International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

kfelton0002, I have a fascination for antiques and have been collecting them for a long time. I guess they help me out with my chicken prop ideas. I love all things country, and shabby chic. The chicks just look at me like, What? My camera is probably considered a dinosaur now. I need a new one, but I cannot bring myself to pay what they want for new ones so I guess I'll just stick with this one:D

Your pictures are beautiful and you inspire me. :bow

I think I will try my hand at taking some artsy Marans pics. I just need to gather some adequate props to use. :D

Hi kfelton0002, thank you! Little Radar is supposed to be a cuckoo marans. I am new to them, so I hope he really is one. I'll post some pics of him when he gets older. If he is a fake maybe chooks man will be able to tell.:)

The white spot on Radar's head indicates the presence of the barring gene, so he is looking like a Cuckoo Marans to me. You can use Cuckoo Marans and Black Copper Marans to create Golden Cuckoos also. It was a project I wanted to try, but for lack of pen space, I parted with my Cuckoos to focus on my BCM's.

I also have a legbar named Fabio.

As you can see, Fabio is named for his long, flowing locks( fabulous feather crest). His earlobes aren't real great, but that crest combined with the straight comb, even with the faults, made him worth keeping as a breeder. His sons don't have floppy combs either. He's well shaped, although he has a lot of gold, and quite a bit of Chestnut through the wings and crest.

Your Fabio is lovely! I chose Fabio's brother, who incidentally doesn't have a name, for the breeding pen and kept Fabio as a backup. My Fabio has a nice crest but his comb is floppy and not as nice as his brother's. I am in love with my Legbars. :)

@Bantambird, your Fabio is a handsome guy!

I also have CLB. These are a few that I hatched this spring from my flock. They will be my main breeders. 2 boys and 2 pullets (look like twins) in addition to my other hens.

Thanks for teaching us with pictures of your chooks. Scheherazade is gorgeous!! Wow, wow those copper ear tufts. She is very special.

you welcome .I m just sharing my knowledge and practice with you guys .
we all love the marans chooks and we want to breed them to perfection . so it is nice we can share ours knowledge .

coppery eras tuft is very rare .
it is related to the autossomal Red genes group not sex linked .
mean she can pass her gorgeous copper and marking to all her progeny not only her son s .
pullets and cockerels from her will be colorful .
she is great asset to correct the cockerel without a red shoulders. the black type .

I have 5 roosters/cockerels to breed her with 2 black copper . 2 golden cuckoos and 1 Blue copper

Would that translate to silver cuckoo? I typed it into google translate and only the words "Coucour" and "argente" were able to be translated. Coucour = cuckoo, and argente = silver. So Silver Cuckoo. Chooks man will know more about it.

Congratulations on your hatch! I am just green with envy! Monique is an amazing Marans breeder. To be able to obtain eggs directly from France is just amazing! You are very lucky indeed. :)

yes coucou argente ( true name is french is coucou au camail argente) = silver cuckoo ( cuckoo with a silver hackle Er/ER NOT a solid cuckoo E/E ( like some English strain )
