this pairing will work wonder too .
I see progeny with a stunning copper and gorgeous eyes from them .

you have few good combination in there ,just mark the eggs and tug the chicks .
you have many lines hidden within them . they just need to be revealed .

I always said you have a good base .don t let the tail and the comb issue bother you too much .
each years we fix some thing .and we keep doing it year in /year out ,tell we end up having great chooks line .

Good luck

Has anyone noticed that the Marans with shorter tails tend to have better tail angle ? Seems as though the longer tail Marans have a more tight tail without the openness we are looking for. Seems as though the longer tail Marans have more problems with the Tail angle being high.

My biggest problem.

Thank u! Im glad you think so! I am in the process of fixing up the pens to single mate them so I know which chicks come from which mating. :)

You and me both! LOL :D

We will get there. I would love to get into showing chickens someday. I will have to pick someone's brain and learn how. @Bantambird you show chickens dont you? :)
Well, I'd like to show chickens, but I'm actually going to my first show as a grown up this weekend. My daughter is going to show some of the March hatch. Sadly, there are no poultry shows in my home state and it has been a huge pain getting tested because the state won't work with us because Montana is cattle country. Chickens are not seen as important here. Some day, when I have more time, I might hit the show circuit, but my kids will need to be older for me to get real about showing. I'm just a breeder for now.

I hear you! Between work, school, the chickens, and being a wife and mom I am delusional to think I have time for showing right now. Im not ready to show now anyway, my birds still need some work so maybe I can study up and learn for when the time comes. Im in KY and the nearest poultry show is in Knoxville TN in December. I would love to go but I need to focus my attention on improving my birds for now. :)

Maximus is your way out of a lot trouble .
all the sex linked genes are there . the comb is not ,can be fixed by the hen too.
just his eyes a lone are an asset to you .plus his spotted chest .
a tail is going to be help full too .

great job .BRAVO

Thanks Chooks man! That eases my mind. I worry over these birds constantly and want to do them justice. :)
