International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

We got a new male GP to replace Rowdy when he passes. Poor Rowdy is near the end. :(

Got him from a breeder kind of spur of the moment last night. I don't want to keep a male from Rosie's litter because I don't want them to inbreed.

Our newest flock guardian, Waylon. He is 6 weeks old.

The saddest thing ever is to watch your furry canine buddy grow old. Pups help. And this lil bud is adorable. May he grow up to roam the fields and nurture your soul.

It is very hard to watch what used to be such a vigorous and strong dog become frail and weak. He is suffering, that is obvious. His cancer and age are taking its toll. We are preparing ourselves to put him down, but it is so hard. :hit

I zoomed in, it does indeed look like Sue has carnation comb. See how the points fork out of each side of the blade. Better pics would help to see better to make sure though.

No need for a better pic. Even my novice eye sees that flaw loud and clear. It's been there since his comb grew. I just didn't know their was a name for it - thank you. And thank you for letting me know it can haunt me.

You're very welcome! I'm sorry Sue has carnation comb. I had to cull a cockerel last year because of a side sprig. Recessive genes can suck, I know. :(

The Olive Eggers do have very lightly feathered shanks. Goes to prove just how easy it is to add color and feathered shanks with one generation.

My olive eggers. Feathered legs. CLB rooster X Marans

I wonder how Chooks man will weigh on this decision. @Hensndoes when you have time would you post side, front and back of each cockerel. Not disagreeing with Kfelton0002, just interested in learning more about this process. I think this is an excellent situation with these two, weighing the pros and cons.
