International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

They are adorable! I love the single barred look of them better than my auto-sexing OE's. Do you have pics of their eggs when they started laying?
I sold them all. That was the best Mother Hen I ever had. She hatched 11 out of 12 eggs. She protected them. Chased me and the dog if we got close. Pecked me when I put the feeder/water in the coop. I lost her to a predator. I sold most of them very young. I had two pullets left and sold them with the big purge. I will have to ask the woman I sold them to. I actually had forgotten about them, it will be interesting to see what the eggs looked like. Now will you take these back to a BCM roo?

Depends on what their eggs look like. If they are too light Olive green, I may breed a couple back to Marans. If their eggs are dark Olive enough, I may produce F1 only. Breeding them back to Marans will yield a percentage of brown egg laying birds, I think.

This also is a perfect example of how the hen affects mass more so than the male. See how slight and lean my autosexing OE pullet is? Like her Legbar mother. Your OE's are thick and chunky, like their Marans mother. :)
Good point, my pullets looked just like my Cuckoo Marans.... actually better...... my OEs had feathered legs my Cuckoos did not.

If you could get in touch with the lady I would love to see a pic of the eggs. I'm curious to see how F1 OE eggs look. :)
